Good For You
Pollyanna Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Drink with all your friends and I'm sorry for always being like this
I see all the lines are just crossing whenever I think of it
You don't understand why I'm like this well let me just tell you this
I'll give you all that I can give you
Take what you want cause I'm sure
Yeah sure, go ahead and go out
I'll try and pretend that I don't care at all
I'll try to cleanse my mind pulsing through the walls
So go and get drunk and have fun and forget about me
I'll wait all night for a sober text when you know, please come home
Don't go now I'll be waiting for you
You know how
To control my heart
I can't act
How you wish I could be somehow good for you, good for you
We go in circles, never making amends
Straying away from, being on the same page
Don't say anymore I've had it you never feel bad about this
The pit in my stomach isn't going away soon
Desperation seeps into my body while I'm trying to ignore it but right now I really need to be mad at you
Don't go now
I'll be waiting for you
You know how
To control my heart
I can't act
How you wish I could be somehow good for you, good for you
I won't be what you want
I won't be what you need
You won't do what I say
No I'm not good for you
Don't go now
I'll be waiting for you
You know how
To control my heart
I can't act
How you wish I could be somehow good for you, good for you
In the song "Good for You" by Pollyanna, the lyrics depict a troubled relationship where one person feels a sense of inadequacy and emotional distress due to their partner's behavior. The singer expresses feelings of unease and anxiety whenever their partner goes out drinking with friends, leading to a pit in their stomach. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and hurt as the partner doesn't seem to understand the impact of their actions on the singer's emotional well-being.
The singer struggles to mask their true feelings of sadness and disappointment, attempting to appear unaffected by their partner's actions. They try to suppress their pain and insecurities, putting on a facade of indifference while secretly hoping for a sign of care or concern from their partner. The lyrics reflect the internal conflict of wanting to appear strong and unaffected while also craving validation and reassurance from the person they care about.
The repeated refrain "Don't go now, I'll be waiting for you" highlights the singer's longing for attention and emotional connection, despite feeling neglected and unappreciated in the relationship. There is a sense of powerlessness and dependence portrayed as the singer acknowledges their inability to fulfill the expectations of their partner or be "good for you" in the way they desire.
The song culminates in a realization that the singer cannot be what their partner wants or needs, and they acknowledge the unhealthy dynamic of the relationship. The final assertion "No I'm not good for you" indicates a moment of self-awareness and acceptance that the relationship may be toxic or unsustainable. Overall, "Good for You" delves into themes of emotional turmoil, unmet expectations, and the complexities of love and relationships.
