Chandelier
Postmodern Jukebox feat. Dani Armstrong Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Party girls don't get hurt
Can’t feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down
I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone’s blowin' up, ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love

1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink 1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink
1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink
Throw 'em back till I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn't exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night
Feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life
Won't look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life
Won't look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

Sun is up, I'm a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame

1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink 1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink
1 2 3, 1 2 3, drink
Throw 'em back till I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn't exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night
Feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life
Won't look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life
Won't look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

On for tonight
Yeah I'm just holding on for tonight
Oh, I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight, on for tonight
Yeah I'm just holding on for tonight
I'm just holding on for tonight

Oh, I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight, on for tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Chandelier" by Postmodern Jukebox feat. Dani Armstrong delve into the mindset of someone who seeks escape through partying and self-destructive behaviors. The opening lines, "Party girls don't get hurt, can't feel anything" suggest a numbness or emotional detachment that comes with this lifestyle. The singer tries to suppress their emotions and drown them with alcohol, portrayed by the recurring line "1 2 3, drink."

The singer embraces the transient nature of their existence, living for the present moment and disregarding the consequences of their actions. They feel the rush, the love, and the thrill in this reckless way of living. The phrase "I'm gonna swing from the chandelier" represents their desire to let loose and live life to the fullest, even if it means losing control.

Amidst the chaos, there is a constant struggle to hold on. The lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and desperation as they cling onto their lifestyle for dear life. The repetition of "Won't look down, won't open my eyes" suggests a fear of facing reality or confronting the consequences of their actions. The singer relies on their glass being full, symbolizing the alcohol as a means of comfort and escape.

The lyrics also touch upon the shame and regret that follows the wild nights. The line "Here comes the shame" suggests a cyclical pattern of regret and self-destruction. The singer resolves to keep going, running away from their messy reality. "On for tonight" becomes their mantra, as they continue to hold on and seek temporary relief through their self-destructive behaviors.

Overall, "Chandelier" explores the struggle between the desire for freedom and escape from pain, contrasted with the consequences and emotional aftermath that come with reckless behavior. It portrays a person caught in a never-ending cycle of seeking temporary relief through partying, avoiding the deeper issues at hand.

Let's look at it from how we're supposed to see it. The focus is on the singer. I would have to say she's wearing one of the most beautiful designed gowns I've ever seen. Black, but white, sheer vertical lines, airy, flying. Her voice is one to match; it so light, airy but powerful without notice.

The center of the set is that chandelier which is important because it's the title of the song but while it's a center piece, it's never the focal point of the song, the singer is.

We then look to the background, An elegant, paneled room with a high ceiling, beams, fireplace and everything that says class. The band is well mixed and plays to the singer. There is nothing else they could do to make this piece more perfect.

This is why groups like this sholdn't be on youtube but on another format that does them justice.

And you thought I didn't like the band just becaue the piano player rarely wore shoes.

I’m not entirely sure she needs a microphone at all. In most of the PMJ performances the drummer is playing in a fairly restrained way. Here he’s wailing on the drums and she seems unfazed. Her voice is so powerful … I am stunned. She captures the essence of this song and expresses it so strongly. Her range, vibrato, pitch and sheer volume are amazing.

@KentuckyGinger

She is even mmore amazing in person! Fabulous.

@@KentuckyGinger where do I watch it in person?
