Josh has been a friend (and adopted son, lol) of our family for years, and seeing this video was just too cool. This is exactly the kind of guy Josh is, and it's awesome to see so many people not only enjoy his kind-natured attitude, but also the great music he plays. Very neat! Thanks for posting.

So wonderful! I'm so glad he didn't panic and frighten the bird away. This reminds me of a time I was sitting in my backyard with my feet propped up on the fence, just looking into the woods. As I sat there, a titmouse flew in and landed on the toe of my shoe! It sat there for a minute or two and stared at me, tipping its head to one side occasionally. I was all alone and naturally had no camera, but it was a great experience that left me grinning for days.

@KeeneValleyGuy Regardless of being in a hurry, I think the sound and video quality are awesome for an outdoor concert and standing in a crowd. Robert Scoble posted a link to your video this weekend and it is busting out everywhere now. Congratulations! Kudos to Josh for handling it so well and a virtual high five to you for paying attention and and zooming in on the stage to share it with us. Thanks for sharing a great moment.

I love this. You can tell that Josh is a nice guy by the way he reacts to the little bird. And in return he gets a special moment captured on video that will hopefully bring in a lot of new fans. Count me as one of the them!

Wow, I didn't realize this had gone viral! I was there when it happened - Denton is my favorite bluegrass festival! I wasn't filming at the time, sadly, but I do have pictures of Josh holding the little bird and trying to figure out what to do with it! It was a cute moment!

This is the sweetest thing....I just love his kindness......I hope that I don't sound like I live in a cave in the Himalayas...but you can truly see a piece of his soul.....and I like the song too...The bird has good taste. :-)

What an absolute delight. Looks like a little Eastern Phoebe fledgling may have gotten spooked by all the strange noises! Looks like it's at that age to leave the nest anyway. Not a bad first experience though. So nice how gentle he is with the little one. No wonder I love Bluegrass.

As long as his parents didn't reject him for being touch by Josh he is probably just fine. I handle my fledgings when they fall out too soon and their parents never seems to care but they are used to me. As long as they continued to care for him he is fine. Love the video. I'd love to hear more of your music as well. I really enjoyed it.

and let us not forget that Josh is a very, very fine mandolin player, and a regular member of the Tony Rice Unit. Anyone who's watched this and enjoyed the music would undoubtedly love a lot of what Tony Rice has does over the years.

SO COOL!Josh is the real deal ya dont ever want to miss him,super nice guy as you all can tell I'm sure!A great musician I remember standing next to him one night at Thomas Point Beach up here in Maine when he was with Rhonda at the campsite and he was playing every instrument the Rage cared to hand him even Hunters fiddle...they were having a great time...Josh loves his beer!HAHAHAHA!

Reminds me of when a baby hummingbird tried landed on our pool cover years ago. I rescued it, put it in an animal carrier and fed it for days with syrup dripping off my finger. It would then walk around my shirt and sit on my shoulder. A few days later its mother showed up and I held the baby in my outstretched hand while the mother hovered in the air just beyond my fingers and fed it. Finally got strong enough to fly away. All quite amazing...as was the video. Great stuff!

@BarbaraJaneP Josh has a fine voice. Lots of range with a terrific bass kick when he call on it. He's also been named guitar player of the year at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for the past three years.

Josh Williams' Dad Tony wrote this in response to those of you who've asked about what happened to the bird. ""Josh handed it to a young lady that was a Doctor of Vetinary medicine, she later emailed that she still had the little cardinal that flew down and sang Mordecai with Josh!" Oh, note that the bird was a cardinal. I don't know if it was consecrated or not.

It looks like a female eastern waxwing. It's the kind of bird that my daughter accidentally kidnapped, thinking it was a baby bird. They are very social creatures and have no fear of humans. They eat a fruit diet and are very social birds, to the point of handing fruit down the line to the very end bird and the first bird waits until everyone has fruit before eating one. Very awesome birds.

@pobhockle It's lasted longer than anyone thought it would. Bluegrass has a worldwide audience of millions. While invented in the U.S., there are major festivals held in the UK, Europe, Australia, and bands regularly tour Japan. It's a sub-genre of country sticking to a form that Bill Monroe pulled together in the 1930's and 40's. It reaced maturity during performances at the Grand Old Opry in 1945, but keeps growing and changing. Great music by wonderful musicians.,
