Misery
Q-Box Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Never believe the action
Slow dissolve
Like paper under water
Sounds collapsing
Tethered worlds collide
Wings are burning
Now come alive
Oh misery
I'd do anything for you
Don't desert me
Time is all I have to lose
Oh misery
I'd do anything for you
Don't desert me
I am on my knees for you
Swallow meaning
Eternity in code
Heady passion
Reflection overload
Oh misery
I'd do anything for you
Don't desert me
Time is all I have to lose
Oh misery
I'd do anything for you
Don't desert me
I am on my knees for you
Cycle walk away
Never believe the action
Slow dissolve
Like paper under water
Ether distraction
Focus formulated
Render awaken
A daemon in disguise
The song "Misery" by Q-Box speaks about the singer's deep and painful longing for someone or something, which they refer to as "Misery." The song starts with the lyrics "Cycle walk away, never believe the action," which suggests a sense of hopelessness and disillusionment. The singer talks about the sounds collapsing and tethered worlds colliding, creating a sense of chaos and an existential crisis. The lyrics also mention wings burning, which could be interpreted as the pain of letting go or holding on.
The overall theme of the song is the singer's desperate plea for Misery not to desert them, and they would do anything, even be on their knees, for it not to happen. The lyrics "Swallow meaning, eternity in code, heady passion, reflection overload" speak about the overwhelming feeling of being consumed by Misery, and how it affects the singer's entire being. It's almost as if they have lost themselves in their longing for Misery.
As the song progresses, the lyrics talk about how the singer is trying to focus, but there are distractions and a "daemon in disguise." This suggests a struggle to remain grounded and present in the face of overwhelming emotions. Ultimately, the song ends on a plea for Misery not to desert the singer, as time is all they have to lose.

I can't help but find it neat that for the Shining they switched out the Hammer for an Axe, and for Misery they switched out the axe for a hammer. Strangely poetic.

Does she also blowtorches him in the book?

How did James Caan not win an award for this movie?!
I mean the way he was able to give a realistic pained cry as she hit his ankles is why he is a good actor.

A lot of people were asked to do the role and they all turned it down. Know why? A lot of reasons I'm sure, but undeniably one of them is that most of the role is spent bedridden, meaning you have to act with your face and voice a lot. In addition, you are the main character, but you have to not overshadow Kathy Bates, if you did you would ruin the tension. You have to convey all the reasonable emotions, in a limited manner, while making sure you do not come off as strong. Not a lot of actors are willing to do that it turns out, but credit to James Caan! That man played very strong violent characters, and he played characters like this one which are very vulnerable. Any actor or actress who can play characters that are very different, is a good actor and deserves respect for challenging themselves to not play the same character over and over again.

This scene has the ability to put the audience in Paul’s situation. The first time you watch it, even if you know it’s no use, you pray to yourself that she doesn’t do it. But she does it anyway and then for a reason you feel your own ankles breaking.
