To bring down the Sports Arena, he played the River front to back and then a massive encore including Wrecking Ball, Rosie, Jungleland. 3 hours and 45 minutes, plus crowd surfing. He had Clarence's son, and Danny's son and daughter join on stage during 10th Ave. Freezeout. Who else does this for an encore after playing for two hours:

Well born in 98 in far East of Russia. I remember my dad taking us to the sea side with this tune on, i remember it as good as if it was yesterday. Some of his Americans friends in UNI handled him in Bruce's CD. Hed never stop listening to him. Now 15 years later i understand why he loved him so much. It all makes sense, dad i love you!

I knew my girlfriend since she was seven and I was nine she was my neighbor. In 1980 when this song came out, I was 19 and she was 17 we dated. She was a shy, blonde haired, beautiful girl, and I came from a terrible background. I was the captain of the football team, pretty popular and pretty much a tough guy since I had to be due to my upbringing ,at 19 and 17 she was expecting and we got married. I had to drop out of college. She has become a stay at home mom as a baby her self. We got married like this song describes. I got a job in construction & a union card at 19 years old, we have now been married 42 years. It has not been easy, but we never quit. She is the most beautiful woman still inside and out. By the grace of God we are still together and have a thriving business . God is good. There are no mistakes in life just unexpected. Blessings!!!!

I'm 53 and have seen hundreds of concerts, but the 3 concerts with springsteen are among the best. no choreography, no light show, no half-naked dancers, no laser show but pure energy on stage and a singer who doesn't act like a star and songs that tell stories. there are few musicians with such live qualities.

Springsteen has given us decades of unforgettable music. But for me, that period book-ended by "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and "The River" was the crowning achievement of his career. Those two albums, and all the live recordings in the two years or so between them, were like nothing before or since. And this song and performance encapsulate all of that in seven minutes of heart-breaking beauty. BTW, Roy Bittan never gets enough credit for his piano work during this period.

Don't underestimate Dancing in the Dark. There's a lot of depth in that song that gets flushed in the 80s sound.
By the end of the recording of the Born in the USA album, Landau said to Springsteen that they still needed that one hit. Springsteen, after having written over 70 songs for that album, got pissed off by the comment and said to Landau "go write it yourself" and slammed the door and left. The day after Springsteen came back with Dancing in the Dark.
If you listen to the lyrics you can really feel the same kind of frustration and struggle that can be found in songs like Badlands and Born to run etc

Bruce is a legend, a great songwriter and a musician with a tight band behind him. I know he is now a wealthy man but I get the impression he has never forgotten and is proud of his working-class roots. My dad played this album so much when I was a kid that I could sing every song on the album by heart. This song was and still is my favorite. I grew up in a small town in Ohio right on the Ohio river. It has always reminded me of my parents and where I grew up. Bruce was on the very top of his game back in 1980...His concerts felt like 3+ hours in Heaven. I've had the fortune to see him many times over the years, starting back in 1978 in Los Angeles.....Best live artist for your money ever......ever

2022, this Bruce’s most beautiful emotional song is 44 years old and a Masterpiece. I know exactly where I was when I heart it for the first time, it was my 21th Birthday and to celebrate I drunk too much wine. O Lord, I felt horrible and had to travel six hours by bus to get home. Now looking back those were sweet memories. Thanks so much Bruce 🦋

Probably the only song I can sing from start to finish, without a karaoke machine.... It might not be the best voice but what an impact the story has for fans... truly a great and simple story that they can relate to. You've got to love great wordsmiths ... wonderful musical poets.

Saw Bruce during this tour at the Spectrum in Philly, was going to see him again in Philly last month but now will have to wait until next year due to a cancellation. Have seen Bruce numerous times and I still am amazed by the energy him and the E Street Band have after all these years!

I get goosebumps listening to this! One of my favorite Springsteen songs, it hits so close to home! Instead of Mary it was Susan, her dad owned the company and the river was the Missouri. When she told me she was pregnant I married her and followed my dads footsteps and joined the local 10 Ironworkers. That was 1978, Angela was born in August 79, and Joshua in January of 81, and Shannon in November of 83. I was a full blown Journeyman Ironworker working the high steel all over the Mid-West. I grew up in that river valley and raised my family there, the kids had same of the same teachers Susan and I had when we were in school. It took many years before her old man finally took a liking to me. I worked my ass off making sure my family had everything they wanted, and to prove the world wrong! I was a successful and capable JIW that retired with full benefits at 55. I was able to pick up where I left off when it all started and bought an old 72 Chevy and lived another Bruce Springsteen song, "Racing in the Streets" Susan divorced me after 15 years, I shelled out over $250K in child support and stayed involved with the kids, still do. Angela's a lawyer now practicing in two states, Josh is a union Electrician, and Shannon married a rich carpenter. Me, I live with three girls in a paid for home with five Chevy's and two shops. The three girls are my cats that I rescued, Katia from the Humane Society, and Spooky with her sister Dusty showed up on my porch starving and nearly frozen..."Life is Good"
