Shadowman
RAM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
spoke a word, a summoning.
I wake in fear, strange entities are here, they speak my name, chanting.
Nightmare master, demon, made of darkness, curse of the Shadowman.
I'm paralysed, as if my body has died. I see myself from above. In my bed or is it in my head? This man of black with midnight eyes.
Why have they come for me? What have I done? Darkness enshrouding him, like black fire. Eyes of eternal night search my soul. Curse of the Shadowman, terror in black.
Nightmare master, demon, made of darkness, curse of the Shadowman.
The lyrics to RAM's song "Shadowman" speak to the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare, being paralyzed by fear and the presence of mysterious entities. The singer is petrified and speaks a word, which seems to summon these strange forces. They awaken to find themselves surrounded by these entities, who speak their name in a haunting chant. The singer then refers to their tormentor as a "demon, made of darkness", and the "curse of the Shadowman".
The second verse takes on a dreamlike quality, with the singer feeling as though their body has died and they are watching themselves from above. They see a man of black with midnight eyes, who is likely the Shadowman referenced earlier. The lyrics then dive deeper into their fear and confusion, as they wonder what they have done to deserve this torment, and are surrounded by darkness and eyes that search their soul.
Overall, these lyrics speak to the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare, as well as the fear and confusion that can come with such an experience. The imagery of a dark, malevolent force adds an element of horror to the song, making it a chilling exploration of the fear that can haunt us in our dreams.
