Before I knew what it was
I saw the pills on the table
For your unrequited love
I would be nothing
Without you holding me up
Now I'm strong enough for both of us
Both of us, both of us, both of us
I am a giant (ooh)
Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see
'Cause I am a giant (ooh)
We'll be breaking boulders, underneath our feet
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (oh)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (oh)
Don't hide your emotions
You can throw down your guard
And feed from the notion
We can be who we are
You taught me something, yeah
Freedom is ours
It was you who taught me living is
Togetherness, togetherness, togetherness
I am a giant (ooh)
Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see
'Cause I am a giant (ooh)
We'll be breaking boulders, underneath our feet
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (oh)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (oh)
Oh, oh, oh, hey-oh, oh, oh, oh, hey-oh
I'm gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt, under me, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh, oh, hey-oh, oh, oh, oh, hey-oh
I'm gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt, under me, yeah, yeah
Gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt, yeah, yeah
Gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt, yeah, yeah
Gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt, yeah, yeah
Gonna shake, throw it away in the dirt
(Ooh)
I am, I am, I am (ooh)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (ooh)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am a giant (ooh)
The lyrics of Rag'n'Bone Man's song "Giant" communicate two vital messages. The first message is about the singer's gratitude for the love and support that someone has given him. The opening verse suggests that before this person came into his life, he was enduring loneliness and heartbreak. The lines "I understood loneliness/ Before I knew what it was/ I saw the pills on the table/ For your unrequited love" portray the singer's previous emotional state. He then expresses how much he values the person who came to his aid, saying, "I would be nothing/ Without you holding me up/ Now I'm strong enough for both of us/ Both of us, both of us, both of us."
The second message of the song is about the singer's confidence in himself and his abilities. The repetition of the words "I am a giant" throughout the song underscores this point. The singer portrays himself not only as a commanding presence but also as someone who can inspire others to be similarly formidable. He invites others to join him in his vision of greatness when he sings, "Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see/ 'Cause I am a giant/ We'll be breaking boulders, underneath our feet."
Overall, "Giant" is an uplifting song about the power of love and support to transform people's lives. It also encourages listeners to embrace their own greatness and inspire others to do the same.
