Somewhere Along The Way
Rag'n'Bone Man Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nobody has ever assigned me a part
You know what I mean?
Now Pat, when it comes to that part, I want you to go
Don't do that, 'cause I won't, I won't get there, I'll never do it
I could never do it
That's not my deal
You know I played in our box band, you know?
I'll try it, you ready? (Yeah)
Sorry
One, two, three
See? See what I mean?
Could be born on the same road
And never know each other's name
We were told we were different
Somewhere along the way
We look up at the same moon
Staring at the stars above
Then we ask what would happen
If our paths would accidentally cross
Somewhere, somewhere along the way
If I could do this by myself
I wouldn't ask for your help
I know it's foolish, I feel stupid
To let my pride in the way, in the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere along the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere, somewhere along the way
Could your kindness be your weakness
Or could that be your saving grace?
Do you while away the hours
With a sad look upon your face?
Did you wake up, smell the flowers (oh)
Somewhere, somewhere along the way?
If I could do this by myself
I wouldn't ask for your help
I know it's foolish, I feel stupid
To let my pride in the way, in the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere along the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere, somewhere along the way
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere, ooh, somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere along the way
If I could do this by myself
I wouldn't ask for your help
I know its foolish, I feel stupid
To let my pride in the way, in the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere along the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere along the way
It always happens (ah)
Somewhere, somewhere along the way
The first part of the song features Rag'n'Bone Man in conversation with someone (perhaps a producer or a bandmate) discussing the assignment of a specific part in a song. He expresses his doubts about being able to fulfill the role and his preference for playing the tambourine instead. This conversation sets the tone for the rest of the song, which delves into the theme of individuality and the impact of chance encounters.
The second part of the song reflects on the idea that despite being born on the same road, people can lead vastly different lives and never cross paths. The lyrics ponder what would happen if these paths were to accidentally cross and how it would affect each person. The chorus repeats the phrase "It always happens somewhere along the way," emphasizing the unpredictable nature of life and the potential for unexpected connections.
The final part shifts to a more introspective tone, contemplating the role of pride and vulnerability in human relationships. The lyrics suggest that asking for help can often feel foolish, but that vulnerability can ultimately bring people closer together. The closing repetition of "somewhere along the way" ties together the various themes of the song and emphasizes the importance of chance encounters and shared experiences in shaping our lives.
