You should note the weapon you had in this mission was not the Geth Pulse Rifle, but a specifically-assigned weapon for this mission alone. You'll still have to re-equip it if you want to try it out.

The Geth may have ignored unarmed civilian ships but the Reapers wouldn’t have. In fact the civilians would have been priority targets.

hahaha poor James finally gets chose and it's for a mission with pretty much no squad dialogue and no combat. also, I'm with you Welonz. They should have just shown us the unsuited quarians. it would have been an epic reveal after three games.

The extranet existed 300 years ago, there's no real reason to not have any photos available from that time, or from long before for that matter. Numerous people are well over 300 years old too and could have described what they looked like. Maybe we'll see them in the next game

17:12 I'm sorry but I 100% agree with him, for differing reasons. This game is pretty much desperate for the player to assume that EDI exists primarily in Dr. Eva Core's body, and NOT in the Normandy as was previously established. Javik is an asshole to be sure, but he's speaking straight fact in this one regard to me.

Squad ammo powers means when you use it, your equipped weapon gets the ammo power too, as well as your other squad member. With incendiary ammo you can equip your shotgun then use james's incendiary ammo to put fire on the shotgun (good vs armor and burns enemies) then use your own disruptor ammo on you rifle so you have two choices to tackle different health types.

You need to put a little thought into the order of how you use the powers but its well worth it to make combat easier.

If you romance Tail and see her face in 2, Legion tells you that the data you have on Quarians now isn't close enough to fill in the blanks for how there were 300 years ago.
The real answer, is of course, the rushed production of ME3. They aren't gonna put assets towards them for one side mission unfortunately.

There is a stark difference when you equip your squads with better weapons. Compare Garrus with a stock Mantis and Garrus with a Krysae Sniper Rifle.

Interesting you side with Raan over Garrel.

I see it as an attempt at reconciliation. Garrel isn't trying to "continue the war", he's trying to retreat and just wants some cover. This is what the patrol fleet does, from the conversations with Raan. And he says this time it's different and he won't act recklessly anymore.

As you see in the war assets, they lost some ships because Raan didn't cover the retreat. In the other case, Han'Garrel would have kept his word and just retreated for repairs. I think this is the better outcome, both for the interpersonal relationships and also some more War Assets.

Honestly Shepard should just drop Javik on a planet where they're fighting hard against the reapers and leave him there. It would be the best for him too, as he's basically useless on the Normandy, just spouting nonsense all day long and irritating everyone.
Plus his discourse is dangerously close to the usual rhetoric on master race and other law of the strongest bs.

Well Protheans were literally like 1 step away from being Nazis pretty much. He was also a solider. Maybe scientists and other divisions of Protheans were a bit...different. But as a race, as he tells it, makes them sound like a complete dictatorship and horrible. Unfortunate he was raised that way.

It's hard to tell really, they obviously weren't that good since they enslaved some of the other races but I feel like Shepard stumbled on a very particular specimen who's unlikely to be a good representative.
Imagine if just one human out of billions was picked randomly to represent and explain humans, our way of life, of thinking etc, you'd most likely get a very distorted view of humanity, and possibly an almost entirely false and wrong perspective on it.

Javik is right about AI.

So was Admiral Zen, the Zha (who became the Zhi'til), and Leviathan. Everything about the lore of Mass Effect shows how even well-intentioned use of AI will turn against biological life. EDI is unique because she is only one. Imagine how a million of EDIs will "think".

Displeased: Javik's acting even worse now that he's shed the pretense of actually having some facts to his defence. He truly speaks like a soldier and not like a scientist, I cannot imagine anyone familiar with the process of evolution as touting it superior. Evolution is accident upon accident, all taped together not to break. Synthetic evolution, in comparison, is being able to address problems and respond to them and create a solution that is truly optimal, rather than a solution that just works.

I swear the more I play/watch this arc since 2012 the more I'm disgusted by it's garbage one-sided pro-geth lore delivery and massive retcons on geth lore from ME2.
Props to Welonz to remember the geth voluntarily threw themselves into reaper slavery after just few defeats instead of.. you know.. fly away, mine asteroids and build their servers between stars, as Legion told us in ME2 about their preferred way of "life". Suddenly they want to be evolved intelligent individuals and hang out on Rannoch which is as opposite to their previous evolution path as it could be.

The Geth are a networked intelligence whose “smartness” increases with numbers. When the quarian fleet destroyed the Dyson sphere the Geth were building to house themselves, too many programs were lost. The Geth became “dumber” and more animalistic.

Yeah I know that. Like I said, almost 10 years into this game.
So again, becoming reaper puppets is justified and preferable to escaping why exactly? Interesting concept of survival, very YOLOish, I'd say.
The geth cling so hard to Rannoch in ME3 it's hilarious, especially if you talk to Legion enough times in ME2 to find out Rannoch is merely a memorial place for them, nothing more.
They didn't have a choice(I guess???) during morning war other than exterminate billions of quarians but 300 years later they are developed interstellar species. Yet somehow, there's an urgent need in last stand to raise the stakes in this conflict to the player.

What is retconned exactly? The quarians attacked, destroyed their Dyson sphere, significantly decreased their intelligence and so on. It’s not “just a few defeats” it’s the biggest defeat they’ve ever had. Allying with the Reapers was their natural self defence. And no, they do not suddenly want to be evolved individuals, they’ve always wanted to evolve one way or another (hence why they were building the Dyson sphere in the first place) but the point was to reach this level of intelligence by themselves and as I mentioned they were doing just that but the quarians came and blew their construct up so they were pretty much forced into an alliance with the Reapers to survive.

As for Rannoch. I guess this is kind of a grey zone - Legion mentions it in ME2 that Rannoch is more of a memorial and the geth just take care of it but it still is a geth controlled territory even if they don’t live there. If it wasn’t that significant in the first place, quarians might as well just have returned at any time but they didn’t because geth would shoot them on sight, you know just as they did now. Just a reminder: the geth are still acting in self defence, it’s not like they got their Reaper upgrades and started blasting. The quarians came, they attacked, the geth started fighting back - simple as that.

@dimbasz Evidently they lost enough programs that they didn't have the intelligence to consider escape as an option. Especially considering the Quarians are now in a position to wipe them out entirely. And wow, they want to defend the planet. It's almost like there's a base there that's broadcasting upgrades to them that are allowing them to fight back and if they lose it, they die or something
