Ratcat formed in 1986 in Sydney and were a mainstay of that city's live music scene until they were eventually signed to Waterfront Records where they released a self-titled EP, several singles ("I Think I Love You", "Baby's Got A Gun") and their debut album, This Nightmare in 1989. Another EP, Killing Joke, and another single, "Saying Goodbye" followed.
In 1990, the band signed to the rooArt label. Their first release for their new label was a 6-track EP called Tingles. A combination of budget pricing and catchy A-side "That Aint Bad" saw the Tingles EP reach #1 on ARIA's alternative charts, and shortly afterwards, the top of the Australian national chart. The band's subsequent album, Blind Love and the singles "Don't Go Now" both reached #1. Their next single "Baby Baby" and a follow-up album Insideout sold well, but not to the extent of their previous successes. The band sporadically played live shows over the next few years and released another album Easyrider in 1997.
Ratcat reformed in 1998 to play at the Homebake Festival with new bassist Nic Dalton (formerly of The Lemonheads) and again in 2006 to play a support slot on the Psychedelic Furs Australian tour.

It's Over
Ratcat Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To think our loves lost gone for eternity.
It makes me feel so sad, it makes feel so cold.
Our love had been so right and now it seems so wrong.
It's over, It's over, It's time to start again
It's over, It's over, time to make a mends.
It's over, It's over, this is the end.
When I look at you, I feel O so sad,
When I think of all the thing we've never shared.
I always thought that we could live it to the end.
But then I knew that out of love it had to end.
It's over, It's over, It's time to start again
It's over, It's over, time to make a mends.
It's over, It's over, this is the end.
Then just to be with you makes everything seem right,
And just to have you near and hold you through the night,
It's gone wrong again and I hope that we can mend.
But I'm afraid this time it's gonna have to end...
It's over, It's over, It's time to start again
It's over, It's over, this is the end.
It's over, It's over, how can I start again?
The lyrics of Ratcat's song "It's Over" express a sense of loss, regret, and disappointment in a failed romantic relationship. The singer is feeling sad and cold after their partner says hurtful things, realizing that their once-right love has turned wrong and is now lost for good. The singer reflects on the things they haven't shared and feels a sense of missed opportunities. However, they still long to be with their partner and feel that everything would be right if they could just be together. Despite this, the singer is resigned to the fact that their relationship is over and that it's time to move on and start again.
The song's overall message is one of acceptance and closure. It acknowledges the pain of a failed relationship, but also recognizes that it's important to let go and move forward. The repetition of the phrase "It's over" emphasizes the finality of the situation and underscores the singer's sense of resignation.
Overall, "It's Over" is a poignant and relatable song about the end of a romantic relationship. It captures the feelings of loss, regret, and acceptance that often accompany such a difficult experience.
