THIS is what made Roseanne a fantastic show. It was real. They didn't sugarcoat stuff, they didn't have to make everything flashy, it was gritty, it was real and it was believable. They didn't try to hide peoples demons, they put them out there for everyone to see and sometimes they even succumbed to them.

Yes they had to make a point and humiliate her character, the woman that stood up for Darlene when she was a little girl and they said that she was not pretty enough to be an actress on the show, it was Roseanne Barr that basically forced them to hire her. She was responsible for making the careers of all of these people, and they at least owed her loyalty. They could have at least stayed silent through it all, but the actress that plays Darlene especially was vicious... All to save their own skins

I dont think that was all acting on John Goodman's part. Roseanne was his TV wife and work partner for a damn decade and I have no doubt that they care deeply for each other. Roseanne's sudden departure from the show/death on the show must've been really hard for everyone, especially John. How do you keep doing your best work when the person who you worked so well with is now gone? I see this as Dan mourning the death of his Rosie, and John mourning the departure of his coworker Roseanne.

Roseanne in real life changed so much, she is no longer who she once was. In a way she was gone before she left the show. It makes me sad because I really loved her.

Just remember at the end of "Roseanne" it was revealed she was writing her own story so if cooler heads prevail, she could be easily written back in. Dan died in her story from a heart attack and here he is which makes no sense so they would make some sense out of her return if she chose to. That's my opinion and hope I'm wording it correctly as I wasn't the BIGGEST Roseanne fan but did watch a lot of episodes of the original. The Connors I've only seen from the pilot to the first few after her character died. Also Roseanne's character death is very realistic as overdoses is an epidemic in North America so it's very much plausible. You may be married to someone without knowing who they are and what they do when you're not around.

As someone who has used opioid based medication for many years I don't understand the pain that goes with addiction. I have a lot of sympathy for people who do though. I was paid out for a permanently disability after damaging my back 20 years ago. I've managed to continue in a career as a carpenter since then . I'm very much monitored by my very excellent doctor. These days I usually only take a couple of codeine phosphate tablets a day and I'm very aware to work carefully.. I always understand that I was lucky to never have found an addition apart from sugar. My teeth and midriff attest to the fact.its heartbreaking to witness addition at its worst. I've seen family members suffer greatly because of it. It's only a tv show but it sure rings true. I hope that if there is someone who reads this and is suffering due to substance addiction that they can find the help they need and a good doctor who actually cares.

Uh, buddy, you're still an addict. Whether it's "doctors ordered" or not. You just don't have anything stopping you. If junkies were able to get dope through their doctor and covered by insurance, most would be living the happy normal life like you apparently do. The main reason why opiate addiction is so rough and terrible on people, is because A. if you're buying on the street it's terribly expensive B. you also don't know what you're getting half the time, most people OD because there was fent in their dope and C. not everyone is lucky enough to be able to find a doctor who is willing to help and prescribe the medications they need. A lot of doctors these days are too scared to even prescribe someone Tylenol 3.

On occasions when I run out of them and can't see the doctor for weeks,I just go without and suffer crippling back pain at home and at work. There is no craving or dependency . Just a lot of physical pain ,which I just suffer through it, especially if I'm doing hard laborious work . I love that we live in an age where everyone is an armchair expert.
Not sure what your experiences are but if you have lived with permanent chronic pain for years then I'm interested to know you've had the option of painkillers and didn't use them. I understand you're probably American where it seems popular for everyone to have issues but that's not how most of us roll in my country. We just get on with it.

This scene really did hit me hard because i because I was a drug daddy and I only took pain medicine but it was really bad.. I had a normal life was on my way to have a normal future and one day in the very early in the morning I got pain on my backside and I find out I had kidney stones Dr prescription me Vicodin and at first I didn't take it it wasn't my cabinet for 3 or 4 weeks and every time I had the pain I went back to the doctor he told me that I just needed to take him to make him alone story short when I got addicted to it lost everything destroyed friendships and relationships with family members... When people don't realize is that can happen to anyone doesn't matter who you are you can be rich or no matter your race or your beliefs nothing... It took me a long time to get off and now I'm on suboxones which pretty much saved my life..

Chuck Lorre did the same thing to Roseanne that he did to Charlie Sheen in 2 and a half men. Sheen had a borderline brutal death in that series where he slipped and fell on a platform in paris and was hit by a train and "his body just exploded like a full balloon of meat"

Dan DID die from his heart attack at the wedding and she wrote the book because she needed the money. The whole lottery winning thing and Dan not dying was made up for the book. Plus to make it more interesting for readers, she reversed some characters. In 'real life' Becky was married to David and Darlene to Mark because both couples personalities were more compatible.

In the first scene of the reboot series, Roseanne wakes up in bed in a panic with Dan next to her. She wakes him up and says "I thought you were dead" to which he replies "I was sleeping." Thus indicating that Roseanne had dreamed the whole book thing as well as Dan having died. So the series basically picks up where it left off just 20 years later. The only difference is they are NOT rich because they never won the lottery. Which makes no sense because if she wrote that in a book and the book never happened, how are all those episodes with the lottery winnings, Roseanne getting the best doctors in the world for Darlene's preemie baby, etc. explained?

I work in this gruesome clinical field of medicine. This is the reality for many of our patients unfortunately. The laws are very firm even on teenagers, if you share a prescribed medication with another person and they end up dead, you go to jail for a very long time considering the judges ruling.

What she said was wrong, and the fact that so few of the cast members stood by her side is also very sad. But Roseanne also made the decision to give up her stake and involvement in the show so that the rest of the cast could continue to work. It's not to say that the show isn't a shadow of its former self but, roseanne knew that the days of being brash and reckless were over and refused to allow her TV family to pay the price with her. The show was hers, always and she gave it for them because her skewed and outdated way of thinking shouldn't have such a wide reaching effect.

I'm so sorry for your loss. But, as a recovering addict, I want you to know that there's nothing you could have done any differently. We can be ruthless people when someone tries to stand in between us and our addiction. We can even do things we would have NEVER seen ourselves doing normally, just to get what we want (think we need). Nothing would have helped her until she was ready. Please don't beat yourself up. When I finally made the decision to get off opioids, I had to move miles away from everyone I knew, and I had to make the conscious decision to not go see a doctor. THEN... I had to pray a LOT and curse a LOT! I laid in bed sweating, burning up, freezing, feeling like my bones were crushing, and trying to regrow on the outside of my body, all at the same time, while turning my guts wrong side out on the way through! I couldn't stay out of the bathroom. It was literally a nightmare! And it lasted for a little over 3 weeks, until I finally started feeling human again on my own. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. But, it's determination to face it, that is needed. Not people who love us, wanting it for us any harder, or doing anything any differently. However, I will say, that if anyone you know decides to break addiction, just be there waiting to love them when they come out on the other side.

As redundant as it may seem, this 'problem' was directly caused by our governments. Have you ever spoken to any of the soldiers that were in Afghanistan after 9/11? Do you honestly think they were over there for terrorists, ISIS, Osama Bin Laden and oil? These was the reasons given in the media for the war in the middle east but behind closed doors American soldiers were confiscating poppy farms and shipping the opium back to the USA. Within 12 months of the war on terror in the middle east, there was a sudden surge in fentanyl and opioids prescriptions, addictions and overdoses in the USA. Check the dates. Everything corresponds accordingly. Coincidence? Absolutely not. I've met with soldiers who were personally on these operations first hand. Stop thinking the government is your friend and that they have your personal best interest at heart.

You can tell that Dan was about to lose it and the end. Reminds me of Florida breaking down after James' death (Good Times) and Archie doing likewise after Edith's death (Archie Bunker's Place).
