I Didn't Know What Time It Was
Rebecca Martin Lyrics

Perhaps danced with Jim and Paul and kissed some other chaps
Once I was young but never was naive
I thought I had a trick or two up my imaginary sleeve
And now I know I was naive
I didn't know what time it was then I met you
Oh, what a lovely time it was how sublime it was too
I didn't know what day it was you held my hand
Grand to be alive, to be young, to be mad, to be yours alone
Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear your voice
Say I'm all your own
I didn't know what year it was, life was no prize
I wanted love and here it was, shining out of your eyes
I'm wise and I know what time it is now
I didn't know what time it was then I met you
Oh, what a lovely time it was how sublime it was too
I didn't know what day it was you held my hand
Warm like the month of May it was and I'll say it was grand
Grand to be alive, to be young, to be mad, to be yours alone
Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear your voice
Say I'm all your own
I didn't know what year it was, life was no prize
I wanted love and here it was, shining out of your eyes
I'm wise and I know what time it is now
The lyrics of Rebecca Martin's song "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" reminisces about the singer's past when she was young, carefree and thought she was wise. She talks about dancing with Jim and Paul and dating other guys, but as she looks back, she realizes that she was naive. She believed she had a lot of experience, but in reality, she didn't know anything. The singer's perspective changes when she meets someone special who shows her what life and love are all about, and in the process, she discovers a new side of herself she never knew existed.
The tone of the song is nostalgic as the singer looks back at her past and appreciates how far she has come. The lyrics reveal a coming of age story, as the singer learns the importance of having someone special to share life's experiences with. The song's structure reinforces this idea, as the chorus repeats the line "I didn't know what time it was then I met you, Oh what a lovely time it was, how sublime it was too", emphasizing the transformative power of love.
Overall, the song's message is that even when we think we know everything, we still have a lot to learn, and it can take someone special to open our eyes to new perspectives and experiences.
