Read Full Bio ↴Rich Price is a songwriter and composer and member of The Sweet Remains.
Rich's latest solo album, moonlight breaks, is his fourth studio album (and first in more than five years). Recorded in Vermont and California (with some additional tracking in Tennessee), the album was produced & mixed by Rich Price, Joe Deveau and Clint Bierman, with additional production from Andy Zulla and Jack Gauthier. "I loved making this record," Rich says, "because I had a chance to work with some of my absolute favorite artists, and most of it was done in my home studio, so we could make some music, come upstairs for dinner and go down and make more noise." The album features the artistry of some of Rich's longtime collaborators including Joe Deveau, Clint Bierman, Peter Day, Jeff Symonds, Andrew Doolittle, Brian Chartrand, Will Evans and more. "In many ways, this is my favorite batch of songs."
Rich's music has been featured in film and television, most notably on the platinum-selling Shrek 2 soundtrack. Recently, Rich's songs have appeared on shows such as "In Plain Sight," MTV's "Real World" and in TV commercials (including Bridgestone Tires, Subaru, Macy's, Vineyard Vines and more).
Rich's debut album, Night Opens (2002), was produced by (college roommate) Pete Francis (of Dispatch) and Jack Gauthier (Dispatch's producer). "That record was magical for me," Rich remembers, "we went in thinking we would record a 3 song demo and came away with an entire album tracked in a day. Pete and Jack created such an incredible vibe, and people really responded to that rawness and spontaneity." Shortly after its release, Rich was signed RCA Records and, after a label reshuffle, was later signed to Geffen. While at Geffen, Rich recorded his second album, Miles From Anywhere (2004), produced by Andy Zulla, with additional production by Jack Gauthier. "I had an opportunity to put together an incredible band and hit the road, criss-crossing the country and playing show after show. I learned so much for those guys, and, when I was dropped by the label, I had this reservoir of songs that I'd written on the road, and, before the band broke up we went in and tracked a bunch." That would serve as the foundation for much of his third record, All These Roads (2006), once again teaming up with Andy Zulla.

I'm On My Way

From the bed of stars, the ocean wide
If I call your name out
Would you carry me on inside
If I close my eyes
Let me put my face in the hot sand
Could you raise your voice up
Feeling that hope
But I'm on my way
Yes I'm on my way
I said I'm on my way, yeah
But I'm on my way
If I'm on my way now
I'm better for it all cause I'm moving on, yeah
And whether they might say
After all you can see
Yeah you can see
I'm gone
But I'm on my way
Yes I'm on my way
Said I'm on my way, yeah
Said I'm on my way
I'll never find my way back here from anywhere
I'll never find my way back here from anywhere
I'll never find my way back here from anywhere
I'll never find my way back here from anywhere
But I'm on my way
I said I'm on my way
Yes I'm on my way
(I'm on my way)
Said I'm on my way
(Said I'm on my way)
Yes I'm on my way
(I'm on my way)
Said I'm on my way, yeah
But I'm on my way
The lyrics to Rich Price’s “I’m On My Way” convey a sense of hope and determination to move forward from difficult times. The song seems to address a specific person, with the singer asking if they would “carry me on inside” if they called out their name. The theme of moving forward is present throughout the song, with the singer expressing that they’re “better for it all” and “moving on” even if others might not understand or agree with their decision. The repetition of the line “But I’m on my way” emphasizes the idea that the singer is committed to their journey, no matter the obstacles in their path.
The imagery in the first verse of looking up at the “bed of stars” and calling out a name creates a sense of vulnerability and reaching out for help. The later line, “let me put my face in the hot sand” adds to this feeling of being overwhelmed and seeking solace. However, the chorus and subsequent verses suggest that the singer is determined to keep moving forward despite these setbacks. The repeated line “I’ll never find my way back here from anywhere” reinforces that the singer is committed to leaving behind whatever they were dealing with before.
Overall, Rich Price’s “I’m On My Way” communicates a message of resilience and determination. The lyrics reflect the idea that, even when struggling, it’s important to keep pushing forward towards a better future. The repetition of the title phrase also serves as a reminder to listeners that they too can be on their way to something better if they stay committed to their journey.
