I’ll drink rose from the bottle til I feel like I can float
Float away from all my problems
And watch them pass me by
Stumbling down the street
How drunk am I
I’ve never been the kinda girl who likes to party
No I’m not the type to sip Coke and Bacardi
Netflix is my best friend and I’d really rather stay in
It’s easier if I don’t have to answer all your questions
Please don’t make me leave my couch
Maybe I’m a little lonely but I like it just fine
I’d rather hang out with Joey
And see my real friends another time
What to say & what to wear
It’s so much work to do my hair
In case you can’t tell
I don’t want to be there
I’ve never been the kinda girl who likes to party
No I’m not the type to sip Coke and Bacardi
Please don’t make me leave my house
Netflix is my best friend and I’d really rather stay in
It’s easier if I don’t have to answer all your questions
Please don’t make me leave my couch
I know I cancel every time you try to hang out
But please don’t make me leave my house
I’d rather be home on my couch
I just need some space to be alone
It’s not you it’s me
So please don’t make me leave my house
I’d rather be home on my couch
I’ve never been the kinda girl who likes to party
No I’m not the type to sip Coke and Bacardi
I’ve never been the kinda girl who likes to party
No I’m not the type to sip Coke and Bacardi
Please don’t make me leave my house
Netflix is my best friend and I’d really rather stay in
It’s easier if I don’t have to answer all your questions
Please don’t make me leave my couch
Please don’t make me leave my house
I’d rather be home on my couch
Riley's song "Don't Leave Me Alone" speaks to introverted tendencies and how they can be misinterpreted as antisocial behavior. The singer describes her aversion to typical social activities such as drinking, partying, and small talk, preferring instead to stay home and watch Netflix with her cat, Joey. The lyrics suggest that the singer may struggle with anxiety and/or depression, finding comfort in solitude rather than the pressure of social interaction. The chorus repeats the line "Please don't make me leave my house/I'd rather be home on my couch," emphasizing the singer's desire for autonomy and control over her environment.
The song taps into the cultural phenomenon of FOMO (fear of missing out) and the societal pressure to be constantly social and engaged. By glorifying and romanticizing introverted tendencies, "Don't Leave Me Alone" celebrates the value of self-care and emotional boundaries. The lyrics are relatable to many who have felt drained by social situations and can serve as an anthem for those who prioritize solitude over stimulation.
This song is particularly compelling as it was written and performed by a young artist (Riley was 16 at the time of its release in 2018) and resonated with a generation that is increasingly open about mental health struggles and the importance of self-care.
