I'll catch it 'fore it hits the ground
Cry a little for our fears baby baby
I'm so scared there's something wrong
I hid you in the corner of my empty room
Never really cared 'til now
Not standin' in the corner for me anymore
Your sentence and I'll pass mine
And when my time is through
Can I still come home to you
Anytime anytime you want me
Anytime anytime you're lonely
You just have to call, 'cos you know I'll be there
Anytime anytime you need me
Anytime anytime maybe you're dreamin'
Wakin' up all alone your heart is screamin'
I know I caused you so much pain
I promise that I'll never hurt you again
Even though the scars remain
With a little time I know we can win
Can't stop this fire, lost control over my desire
It burns for you like it always used to do
Anytime anytime you want me
Anytime anytime you're lonely
You just have to call, 'cos you know I'll be there
Anytime anytime you need me
Anytime anytime maybe you're dreamin'
Wakin' up all alone your heart is screamin'
And after the war is over
And all the fighting's through
Can I make my peace with you
I wanna come home to you
Anytime anytime you want me
Anytime anytime you're lonely
You just have to call, 'cos you know I'll be there
Anytime anytime you need me
Anytime anytime maybe you're dreamin'
Wakin' up all alone your heart is screamin'
The lyrics of Robin McAuley's "Anytime" depict a lover pleading with his partner for forgiveness and promising to always be there for them. The opening verse portrays a sense of urgency, as the lover catches a kiss blown from the hand of his partner before it hits the ground. This implies that he is afraid he will lose her forever if he doesn't act quickly. He then goes on to ask his partner to cry with him, indicating that he is scared that something is wrong and that he needs her support. In the following verse, he acknowledges that he never really cared before, but he cares now because he has realized how important she is to him. He tells her that she has served her sentence, and it's his turn to do the same. He asks if he can still come home to her after he has served his sentence.
The chorus reassures the partner that the singer will always be there for her, no matter what. The singer tells her that she just has to call, and he will come, whether she is lonely or just needs someone to talk to. He promises that he will never hurt her again, and even though there are scars, they can overcome them with time. The second verse speaks of the fire between them, which the singer has lost control of. He compares the fire to the past, stating that it burns for her just as it always did. The chorus repeats, highlighting the singer's willingness to be there for his partner anytime she needs him. The bridge asks for forgiveness and the chance to make peace, promising always to come home to her.
