Can't Fight This Feeling
Rock Of Ages Cast Mitchell Jarvis & Adam Dannheisser Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show

I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear

And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might

And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars forever

'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

And if I have to crawl upon the floor

Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

Overall Meaning

The song "Can't Fight This Feeling" by the Rock Of Ages cast Mitchell Jarvis and Adam Dannheisser explores the theme of surrendering to love and the fear of expressing one's true feelings. The lyrics express the singer's internal struggle as they admit that they can no longer deny or suppress their feelings for someone. They are afraid to let these feelings flow freely because they fear rejection or vulnerability.

The song suggests that their relationship started off as friendship, but it has developed into something much stronger and deeper. The singer wishes they had the courage to show their true emotions and reveal the strength of their feelings. Despite their fear, they know that they can't hold out forever and that there is no rational reason for their hesitation. When they are together, they feel secure and their life gains clarity and purpose.

Even as the singer wanders or tries to escape their emotions, they cannot keep the other person out of their sight. The person they love is depicted as a guiding light, a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night. As they get closer to revealing their true feelings, they acknowledge that they have reached a point of no return. They have forgotten why they initially fought against this love and now recognize that it is time to bring their metaphorical ship ashore, leaving their doubts and resistance behind forever.

In the final lines, the singer's desperation intensifies. They can no longer fight their feelings and are willing to do whatever it takes to be with the person they love, even if it means crawling upon the floor or crashing through their door. The repetition of the phrase "I can't fight this feeling anymore" emphasizes the urgency and emotional intensity of the singer's revelation.

Overall, "Can't Fight This Feeling" delves into the emotional journey of someone who has reached a breaking point in their resistance to love. It explores the fear, vulnerability, and eventual surrender that comes with fully embracing one's feelings for another person.

Why can't they film this live with the original cast?! Like they did with Rent, Phantom (though that wasn't original, but hell I still loved it), Oklahoma, etc. I would totally buy it. I saw this musical and this thing was kick ass, I loved every minute of it.

I adore Russell and his accent too. I wasn't thrilled with a few of the changes the movie made -- for one thing, they left out what a womanizer Russell's character was supposed to be (hence the camel toe shirt he wore in the show) which made this scene even more unexpected and funny. But there are things you can do with a movie that you can't do on stage so I really did like the movie. Tom Cruise was surprisingly brilliant in it!

I know you said this 8 years ago but imo tom cruise was the worst thing about the movie ngl. he completely ruined stacee jaxxs

orandulum

this is probably the only scene from the movie that does the musical justice.

I'm developing a dream cast in my head for this show, and these two remain the same. :)

I have seen the show twice and Mitchell Jarvis is FANTASTIC in this~! He is awesome in this part!

these two were the best! hands down!

the one with the blue eyes

This is really good and funny but personally prefer the film for the only reason of Russell Brand's English accent I find it makes it's more hilarious!!

Same here. His singing voice is even very similar to Jack's. I would be in NYC in a second if Jack ever played the role and I'm sure he would be hilarious. I was lucky enough to see it when Dee Snyder played the other guy though, for a limited time, so that was great.

1 minute and 49 seconds, and still a better love story than Twilight.
