Green was born on August 27, 1999, and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was raised by his mother and father, who eventually separated while he attended elementary school. He began singing in the fifth grade. Green attended Lakewood High School, from which he graduated in 2017.
Green's career began in 2018. He released several mixtapes independently prior to signing with Alamo Records. On June 14, 2019, he released his mixtape PTSD, which included the song "Heart On Ice". The song went viral on YouTube and TikTok, peaking at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Green's debut album, Ghetto Gospel was released on November 1, 2019, and peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard 200.
Green's second album Pray 4 Love was released on April 3, 2020, debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200, with a deluxe edition following on August 7. Several songs from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Rags2Riches", which peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100 and became his highest-charting song. On August 11, 2020, Rod Wave was included in XXL's 2020 Freshman Class. He is currently working on his third, as yet untitled, album, which was originally set for release on August 27, 2020.
Blessed with a special singing voice, and the knowledge of how best to use it, Florida's Rod Wave is taking his own path to the top of the game. Coming through with a soulful set of Southern sing-raps, Rod has developed a groundswell of regional support through a prolific output that includes 3 projects in the last 12 months. After generating millions of streams with breakout singles “Heart On Ice” and “Popular Loner,” both off June 2019’s PTSD project, Rod levels up with Ghetto Gospel, his new project. With heavy use of organic instrumentation, including snaking electric guitars and warm organ swells, Ghetto Gospel gives a proper title to Rod's spiritual and nakedly-emotional blend of rap music, defined by Rod's unique singing ability, able to switch from a bluesy croon to rapid-fire triplets at a moments notice. Featuring the popular new single "Cuban Links," which features an appearance from Ghetto Gospel executive producer Kevin Gates, and the "Heart On Ice" (Remix), which features an appearance from Lil Durk, Ghetto Gospel is available everywhere.

Rod Wave Lyrics

Oh yeah, I'm watchin'
Where the fuck is Rod Wave?
Hey
Mmm
It's November, where the fuck is Rod Wave?
Young nigga way outta state
Look how far a nigga came (yeah)
You remember I ain't had a thing
Fucked up, walkin' through the rain
At the top of the game
Should've seen the niggas I was tryna bring
It's crazy the way these niggas change
Tell the city girl chill (you gotta chill)
You know baby mama know the deal
She know I could beat that pussy (I'm really pressure though)
Okay, let's switch the subject
Notice that both of my wrists is flooded
I been grindin' so hard, gettin' to this money
I been workin' like I know the drought is comin'
Monday to Monday, Sunday to Sunday
You know I'm street runnin', uh
Okay, my daddy was a gangster
What the fuck that made me?
Niggas claimin' that it's love, dawg, but it can't be
Know I fell in love with guns by the age of thirteen
And my pocket rocket on me, homie don't reach
Fuck dyin' in my Cuban link (yeah)
I'm livin' in my Richard Millie
I just finished my tour, what a wonderful feelin'
I got inside my bag and got out my feelings
I'm out my feelings
Hey there everybody
What's it like in your city?
I'm a thousand miles away, but look
Tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do, oh (oh, oh)
Times Square couldn't shine as bright as you (not as bright as you)
I swear, it's true (not as bright)
Look, look
Hey there everybody
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right here if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Uh, listen to my voice
It's my disguise
By your, your side
By your side
By your side, yeah, yeah
Watchin' you close
In Rod Wave's song "By Your Side," he delves into his personal struggles and reflects on his journey from a place of pain and struggle to one of success. The opening lines of the song such as "It's November, where the fuck is Rod Wave?" and "Young nigga way outta state/Fucked up, gettin' over pain" seems to indicate that he's reflecting on his past and how far he's come. The mention of walking through the rain, while he was "fucked up," also alludes to difficult times he's had to overcome.
As the song continues, he makes references to changes he's seen in people and how he's been focused on his grind. He mentions that his father was a gangster and ponders what that makes him. He also talks about falling in love with guns at a young age but emphasizes the importance of safety by telling his "homie don't reach." Despite all of these references to his past, he seems to be focused on the present moment and enjoying his success. The chorus emphasizes his desire to be by the side of the person he cares about, and the repetition of "by your side" at the end of the song conveys a sense of companionship and support.
Overall, "By Your Side" is a powerful song that reflects on Rod Wave's journey and his desire to stay present in the moment while acknowledging his past struggles. Through his lyrics, he expresses his hope to provide support to those he cares about and emphasizes the importance of safety and staying grounded.

Do to an Overdose, we played Tombstone for his whole service. Every song literally makes me think of him Bro. So I just want to say thank you for all you done and much more to come.!
