Don't Rain On My Parade

Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade!
Don't tell me not to fly, I've simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade?
I'll march my band out
I'll beat my drum
Your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it!
Hat, sir?
I guess I didn't make it!
But whether I'm a rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life's complexion
A cinder on the shiny apple of its eye
I gotta fly once
I gotta try once
Only can die once
"Right, sir?"
Ooh, love is juicy, juicy and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade! I'm gonna live and live now
Get what I want I know how
One roll for the whole shebang
One throw that bell will go clang
Eye on the target and wham
One shot, one gunshot, and bam!
Hey world, here I am!!!
I'll march my band out
I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out
Your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it!
Hat, sir?
I guess I didn't make it!
Get ready for me, love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!!!
The lyrics of Ruthie Henshall's song "Don't Rain On My Parade" speak out against anyone who would try to stifle an individual's ambition or discourage them from achieving their dreams. The line "don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter" is a strong statement that one's life is meant to be lived to the fullest, and not to be wasted on idle activities. The line "life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter" is a metaphor that suggests that life is full of pleasures and opportunities that should be enjoyed. The singer then challenges anyone who would try to bring negativity into their life with the line "don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade".
The lyrics then shift to the singer's determination to pursue their dreams. The line "don't tell me not to fly, I've simply got to" is a declaration that no one can stop them from taking risks and reaching for the skies. The line "if someone takes a spill, it's me and not you" is a reminder that the singer is willing to take responsibility for their actions and the consequences that follow. The singer then asserts that no one has the right to hold them back with the line "who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade?".
The remainder of the lyrics is a bold and triumphant declaration of the singer's intention to pursue their dreams with passion and determination. The line "I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum" is a vivid image of a person leading their own parade, while the line "at least I didn't fake it, hat sir? I guess I didn't make it!" suggests that the singer is prepared to face the possibility of failure, but they will not let that stop them from trying. The line "I gotta fly once, I gotta try once, only can die once" is a reminder that life is too short to waste on regrets, and that it is better to take chances than to live with the regret of not having tried.
Overall, "Don't Rain On My Parade" is a powerful statement of determination and resilience. It encourages listeners to live boldly and passionately, to pursue their dreams with courage and conviction, and to never let anyone else hold them back.

Ruthie is amazing. But I don't care for the musical arrangement of this version of the song.
