Don't Dream It's Over

Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and release
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Don't let them win (hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now)
Hey now, hey now
Don't let them win (they come, they come)
Don't let them win (hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now)
The song "Don't Dream It's Over" by Ryan Malcolm is a cover of the original song by Crowded House. The song is an anthem of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. The lyrics describe the challenges that the singer has faced and continues to face, but also emphasizes the strength and resilience that comes from taking on those challenges. The song begins with the line "There is freedom within, there is freedom without" which sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer is trying to catch the deluge in a paper cup, representing how they are trying to accomplish something impossible.
The second verse talks about the struggles of the world around us, with tales of war and waste in the paper, but how we turn to the TV instead. This emphasizes the idea that we often ignore the problems in the world and distract ourselves with entertainment. However, the chorus of "Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over, when the world comes in, they come, they come, to build a wall between us, we know they won't win" is a reminder that we are stronger than the obstacles in our way. We can't let the world build walls between us and divide us because we know that we can overcome anything together.
The final verse talks about moving forward with a steady beat, counting the steps to the door of someone's heart. This highlights that even though there might be shadows and obstacles ahead, we can still move forward towards love and liberation. The song ends with a call to action to not allow anyone to win, to come together as one and face life's challenges together.
