The Ritual
SAVAGE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I need more second chances
I need a dark romancing
I see, I see I was the fool
Omens point to another place
A women with the devils face
I ask the power of the moon
I utter words I’ve never
Spoken as I’m
Holding up her skull
Can’t hide this dirty secret
My hands are filthy
From digging up her tomb
Bring her back to life
My hands are dripping ruby red
I’ll raise her from the fucking dead
I see, I see it wasn’t true
I’ll bind her soul into my own
She’ll be the queen upon my throne
I ask the power of the moon
I utter words I’ve never
Spoken as I’m
Holding up her skull
Can’t hide this dirty secret
My hands are filthy
From digging up her tomb
Her eyes are onyx, black as coal
Black as coal
I see her shape
I see her smile
A wicked girl
Her mouth defiled
An open door
Secrets revealed to me
What have I done?
What have I done?
I see her shape
I see her smile
A wicked girl
Her mouth defiled
An open door
Secrets revealed to me
What have I done?
What have I done?
I utter words I’ve never
Spoken as I’m
Holding up her skull
Can’t hide this dirty secret
My hands are filthy
From digging up her tomb

Her eyes are onyx, black as coal
Black as coal

Overall Meaning

SAVAGE's song The Ritual is a lyrically haunting and eerie song about a person's quest for more chances and their willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve them. The lyrics describe this person's desperation and their desire to summon a woman back from the dead, despite the ominous omens warning against it. The lyrics convey the intensity of this person's obsession, their willingness to resort to dark magic to make their desires a reality, and the danger they face in doing so.

The opening line, "I need more second chances," sets the tone for the dark and desperate nature of the song. This person is not content with their current state, and they believe that they need another chance to achieve their goals. The lyrics go on to describe this person's willingness to engage in a dark romance and summon a woman with the devil's face. The imagery in the lyrics is vivid and haunting, with the repeated mentions of the woman's black onyx eyes and the filthy hands of the person digging up her tomb.

The repeated refrain of "What have I done?" at the end of the song emphasizes the danger and desperation of this person's actions. The lyrics suggest that their quest has been successful, but at great cost, and they are now consumed by regret and perhaps even fear. The lyrics of The Ritual are open to interpretation, but they are certainly a powerful exploration of the consequences of obsession and the dangers of delving too deeply into the dark.

Monroe's personality is so intriguing, especially in the first episodes. He is true to his decision of being a Wieder Blutbad and admits that perhaps his grandfather may have deserved his fate but at the same time, like a true Blutbad, he remains loyal to his family and species and is deeply tempted to settle the score with the Grimms. He is quite literally split in two at the moment.

Lyravain

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that Monroe is a Blutbad and they created every werewolf legend. Then he casually tosses someone to the ceiling or rips out an arm and you go "oh, yeah, I forgot the kind, dorkly, dude in a plaid shirt can be absolutely freaking TERRIFYING!"

Martin Thomas

So true that was an awesome scene and he’s like oops think that went a little to far

Coral Roper

Marie is so cool. She's literally in a hospital bed dying, and she just says, "Take your best shot." Total MVP.

Steve Rogers

@velvety2006 Reapers are highly trained for the sole purpose of killing Grimms. The Wesen your talking about is considered stupid and brutish because they would attack a Grimm without that kind of specialized training.

toomanyaccounts

@velvety2006 the reapers tend to be Hasslich which are more like a bridge troll. What are you thinking of is a Höllentier which first appeared in El Cucuy.

velvety2006

@toomanyaccounts I believe they're also jackal wessen who will take a Grimm on but according to monroe they are considered arrogant and stupid because of it by other wessen.

Artemis red

Nothing to be afraid of when you’re already dying

toomanyaccounts

she faced off against a Reaper which are wessen that are trained to fight Grimms. most wessen are terrified of grimms or will only attack in a group against a grimm. so Reapers are elites.

I'm disappointed they didnt do anything else with Yagerbars past season 1, they were a very interesting and cool wesen, i understand the producers probably had their reasons, i just wish they had done maybe 2 more episodes involving someone as a Yagerbar.
