Everything about this song is great. The lyrics, the arrangement, the emotional way the song is performed. I don't know how anyone could sing the song better. They had other songs that were larger hits than this song, but I think this is their best.

Agree the production on this record is simply superb. It sounds magical. I'm 28 and this is my favourite song at the moment. the 50's was such a great era for music- so melodic with beautiful harmonies. Love Burt Bacharach. Second only to 90's music but that is my era :)

I don't know how many songs we all carry around inside us that have in some way formed us, our understanding of music, even our character. I don't know. 20? 50? 100?
I think the real core must be much less than 100. The truly, deeply imprinted songs.
For me, this is certainly on my deepest list. It's just always there. This voice, this arrangement, this song. Haunting, in a beautiful way.

If you listen close, you can hear Burt Bachrach in the vocal chorus(the music's author) and he, by the way, is also the kickass keyboardist. The song goes back to his Brill Building days and his early collaborations with Hal David.Great song I don't care who covers it.

Love this song! I was a little kid when it was released and I didn't really understand what they were singing about, but I loved it from the get go. Love the shots of San Francisco scattered among those of the beautiful Shirelles, Ali (Louisville's Cassius Clay at the time) and many icons from the 60s. SF is one of my very favorite cities in the world. Thanks for posting!

This excellent hit song with fantastic arrangements hit the pop charts in the Los Angeles area market in early 1962 and stayed there for three months. KRLA, and KFWB played it constantly.

This and "Foolish Little Girl" are my two favorite Shirelles' songs. This one has such an ethereal sound to it with the background doo-wop the finishing touch. Foolish Little Girl has the best two-way "answer" lyrics of any song I've ever heard. Awesome! I love love love the retro montage! It reminds us so much of what good times and good music is all about!
