Black 7
SOiL Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All felt is good here
All felt is just fine
Like a rapture waiting to dine on the divine

It moves across me and sets me free
Open oh so gently

Everytime I scream release
I mean it, you know it
Everytime I feel relief
I feel the day black 7.
I feel the day black 7.

Loss of time is felt here
Burning brick in my mind
Like a cancer growing in the minds of the divine

It moves across me and sets me free
Open oh so gently

Everytime I scream release
I mean it, you know it
Everytime I feel relief
I feel the day black 7.
I feel the day black 7.

Don't roll me over
can't help these things I feel
Couldn't see them coming
But I've given into what's been given
Take a taste of what's within
You cast me over
Yet I've risen and I am real

It moves across me and sets me free
Open oh so gently

It moves across me and sets me free

Everytime I scream release
I mean it, you know it
Everytime I feel relief
I feel the day black 7.
I feel the day black 7.

I am the little cracked mirror
I mean it, you know it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to SOiL’s song Black 7 explore themes of pain, release and redemption. The opening lines "All felt is good here/All felt is just fine/Like a rapture waiting to dine on the divine" describe a state of acceptance and surrender to pain. The reference to dining on the divine suggests that this pain is being used as a transformative force. The lines "Every time I scream release/I mean it, you know it/Every time I feel relief/I feel the day black 7" suggest that this state of release is a kind of spiritual awakening. "Black 7" may be a reference to the seven deadly sins or a personal symbol of the singer's struggles.

The second verse expands on the theme of pain and transformation with the lines "Loss of time is felt here/Burning brick in my mind/Like a cancer growing in the minds of the divine". The reference to a burning brick in the mind suggests an intense mental anguish that can feel like a disease. The phrase "minds of the divine" implies that this anguish is being inflicted on a higher power. The lines "Don't roll me over/can't help these things I feel/Couldn't see them coming/But I've given into what's been given" depict the helplessness of dealing with overwhelming emotions. The final lines "I am the little cracked mirror/I mean it, you know it" suggest that the singer has accepted their brokenness and sees it as a mirror reflecting an inner truth.

This entire album was gold. Never understood why they didn't get more popular. Granted McCombs went and did his thing with Drowning Pool, but he came back years ago and they've only released one album since his return. I hear they're currently writing new material which is great news, but still. This was a stellar album. Redefine was a good album as well. Hopefully the new album..... whenever they get it together will be just as great as this earlier stuff...... I mean shit it's been 13 years (fuck me) since Redefine came out..... and SIXTEEN years since Scars came out. To me Redefine was their last album. No offense to AJ Cavalier's time with the band but that wasn't true Soil IMO.

Just read that they're supposedly releasing a new album this fall sometime...... hopefully that timeline hasn't changed.

@SpaghettiYOLOKing

This album released on 9/11. People didn't want angry music for quite a while after that.

Maybe not so much if you are trying to land an airplane. Just saying that some things probably should not be interrupted even for this.
