One Last Song
SOiL Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can you hear the screams?
All alone I wonder
How much longer, is there time for me?
One last song
I want to give this world
Before it's gone
I don't think we learned a thing
Our history repeats
Will we heed these lessons?
Slit our throats and watch us bleed
Is there time for me?
One last song
I want to give this world
Before it's gone
One last song
Why can't we? When will we?
I don't think we want to learn
We won't be fucking happy
Until we destroy it all
One last song
I want to give this world
Before it's gone
One last song
The lyrics to SOiL's song "One Last Song" are a commentary on humanity's tendency to destroy itself and the world around us. The song opens by asking the listener to take a moment and listen to the world around them. The screams that are heard are likely a metaphor for the damage that humans have done to the environment and to each other. The singer then wonders how much time is left before it's too late to make a change.
The chorus of the song, "One last song, I want to give this world before it's gone," is a call to action. The singer wants to use his voice to make a difference, to leave something good behind before it's too late. The second verse continues the theme of humanity's mistakes being repeated throughout history. The singer questions whether we will ever learn from our past and change our ways before it's too late. The line "slit our throats and watch us bleed" is a stark reminder of the destructive path we are on.
The song ends with a plea for change. The singer asks why we can't, or won't, learn from our mistakes before it's too late. He suggests that we won't be happy until everything is destroyed. The final chorus is a repetition of the first, with the singer wanting to leave something positive behind before it's too late.
Overall, "One Last Song" is a powerful commentary on the state of the world and the urgency to take action to make a positive change before it's too late.
