Walk in the Park
STRAKER Nick Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A walk in the park.
I've got to get some sense
Back into my head.
I`m in the dark.
And I can`t see
Where I`m being led.
I`d give the world
To set the clock back
And act like a man.
Where can I turn
To save myself from this confusion.

[Chorus:]
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.

A walk in the park.
Away from all
The busy streets of my mind.
I seek a straighter path.
I seek a shady clay in which to unwind.
But why do we go on.
In spite of mistakes.
In spite of destruction.
Life can be fun
Depending on the situation.

[Chorus x2]
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.

A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park. [Repeat: x1]
I`m getting away.

A walk in the park. [Repeat: x1]
I`m getting away.

Overall Meaning

The song "A Walk in the Park" by Straker Nick speaks to the difficulties of life and the need to find a sense of clarity and direction amidst chaos. The lyrics convey a sense of confusion and a desire for a fresh start. The line "I've got to get some sense / Back into my head" suggests a recognition of past mistakes and a desire to move forward with a clearer mindset. The reference to being "in the dark" and unable to see where one is being led adds to the feeling of uncertainty.

The chorus, with its repetition of "A walk in the park, a step in the dark," speaks to the idea of taking a risk and moving outside of one's comfort zone in order to escape the troubles of everyday life. The repetition of the phrase "I'm getting away, escaping today" highlights the importance of taking action rather than simply accepting one's current situation.

Ausgezeichnetes Lied, gute Stimme, feiner Rythmus, dezenter Bass und ein halbwegs sinnvoller Text, mehr braucht ein guter Song nicht. Fazit: Sehr empfehlenswert !

35 years after I first heard this, I came back to Google, Nick Straker Band, 'A Walk in the Park'. Why this was never a hit, when it managed to burn its way into my memory for that length of a time having first heard it as an 11 year old schoolboy, is a mystery to me. Along with Landscape's 'Einstein A Go Go' and Tenpole Tudor's 'Swords of a 1000 men' they were a couple of other songs I heard and never forgot from my coach tuned to Radio 1 on the way to and from school.
