Perfect ensemble work, no one gets in the other's way. And what a great bass!!
@BMerker
Yeah, that bassist sustains the entire band, almost gives it its sound! A pure pleasure to listen to. Used to play the tune with my little combo in Sweden almost 60 years ago.

I BELIEVE that Sidney Brown is the bassist. He is one of my favorites!! He and Pops Foster (another one of my favorites) slapped the bass with such authority, and kept the time SO firmly!
@mrhoolie
the recording engineers in those early electric days were superb - and Columbia must have had some of the best!

No, not 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' (coming for to carry me home). It really is 'Sing On' played at the original written tempo. The first time I ever heard this was in the 1960's by a UK band, 'Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz band. They did a grand job of it, but at a faster tempo.
The Sam Morgan Jazz Band band personel would almost certainly be the following: Sam Morgan and Isaiah Morgan trumpets, Jim Robinson trombone, Earl Fouche alto sax, Andrew Morgan clarinet & tenor sax, Tink Baptiste piano, Johnny Dave banjo, Sidney Brown bass and Nolan Williams drums.
Personaly, I am a Sam Morgan's Jazz Band fan, absolutely love them.
Matt Chauvin of '20'sjazz.com fame (check it out, all you could ever want regarding 1920's 'classic' jazz) informs that, although very popular and highly regarded, they only ever recorded eight sides, two of which were 'reconstituted Spirituals' (my quotes).
