When The Rain Doesn't Come
Sandra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Rice fields everywhere
Seven children with their mom
And nobody else... they have to suffer
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
No childlight in her eyes
Now and then she has to leave
To save her family
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
Neon lights, big time in Charlie's bar
In the doorway tiny Chai Ni Li
Some guys start to touch her
She closes her eyes and thinks
"It has to be"
When the rain... When the rain doesn't come
Her will is stronger than her pride
She sells her body to let her family survive
Go and save the child behind those eyes
Don't play on the situation
Even if the rain... If the rain doesn't come
Even if the rain... If the rain doesn't come
Even if the rain... If the rain doesn't come
Even if the rain... If the rain doesn't come
The song "When the Rain Doesn't Come" by Sandra is a powerful ballad that highlights the struggles and sacrifices of a family living in a small farm in a rice field. She is shown standing in front of the neon lights of Charlie's bar, where some guys start touching her. Though she closes her eyes and lets them do what they want, she is determined to save her family.
The third verse portrays the strength of Chai Ni Li's will and how she sells her body to help her family survive. The line "Her will is stronger than her pride" is a powerful statement that shows how far she can go to save her family. The song ends with a plea to save the child behind those eyes and not to play on the situation even if the rain doesn't come.
