Snow On The Sahara
Sarah Brightman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Only tell me that you still want me here
When you wander off out there
To those hills of dust and hard winds that blow
In the dry white ocean alone

Lost out in the desert
You are lost out in the desert
But to stand with you in a ring of fire
I'll forget the days gone by
I'll protect your body and guard your soul
From mirages in your sight

Lost out in the desert
You are lost out in the desert

If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path
The sun may blind our eyes, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara

If that's the only place where you can leave your doubts
I'll hold you up and be your way out
And if we burn away, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara

Just a wish and I will cover your shoulders
With veils of silk and gold
When the shadows come and darken your heart
Leaving you regrets so cold

Lost out in the desert
You are lost out in the desert

If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path
The sun may blind our eyes, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara

If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path
The sun may blind our eyes, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara

If that's the only place where you can leave your doubts
I'll hold you up and be your way out
And if we burn away, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara

Oh-oh-oh .... oh-oh-oh ....

For snow to fall on the Sahara
Oh-oh-oh .... oh-oh-oh ....

Overall Meaning

The song Snow On The Sahara by Sarah Brightman is focused on the theme of love and devotion. In the very first verse, the singer pleads the listener to indicate that they still want her to be there. The setting described is one filled with desolation and barrenness, with "hills of dust and hard winds that blow in the dry white ocean alone." It's a place that can easily make one feel lost and helpless, which is now the current state that the listener has found themselves in.

The chorus explains how the singer is willing to stand by the listener and protect them from the dangers of the surroundings. She is ready to forget their past misgivings and embrace the present moment with devotion. In the second verse, she promises to always be by the listener's side, no matter the situation. She also offers hope to the listener, that even if their hopes scatter just like the dust in front of them, she will be "the moon that shines on their path." By the end of the song, the singer prays to the skies to bring forth snow on the Sahara - an impossible act, yet a powerful metaphor about introducing new beginnings and hope into one's life.

Overall, the lyrics of the song portray a deep and unwavering love for someone who is lost in a desolate and unfamiliar place. It's a message of comfort and assurance, that even in the dark, there is always a light of hope to guide the way.

Truly, one of the most beautiful women in the world... voice and face of an angel. I also like the original version by Anggun, but Ms. Brightman makes it just beautiful as well.

Sarah is a great singer. But I get goosebumps from Anggun's version. I prefer the original =)

I totaly agree. I like the video imagery but it sounds too pop-classical. Anggun's version is more origional and exotic. If i were going to make love to that special someone with this song playing in the background, I'd definitely choose the one sung by ANGGUN.
