It all started in Columbus, Ohio when Dodson and Buzzard became friends and realized that there was a musical connection. Then they contacted a drummer to help them record a song, and that is how they met Goodman. After that, they decided to start a band by borrowing a bass player from another band and by booking a few shows. They recruited a lead guitarist. Saving Jane's popularity grew because the fans loved the lyrics and the vocals. In 2002, Martin joined the band. Cochran and Unger were recently added to the popular band.
Their album "Girl Next Door" was released in October of 2005. After major radio play of the single of the same name, Universal picked them up. The album was re-released with 2 new tracks in April of 2006. The single "Girl Next Door" has received much radio play, it had already peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video for "Girl Next Door" debuted on MTV'sTRL top 10 countdown on April 24, 2006 at #9.
In summer 2008, a followup album called SuperGirl was released with promo remixes of the title track single Supergirl by Jason Nevins.
Mary
Saving Jane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She says it's overrated, living this way
She took her hair down, left her sweater on the floor
She's not a nice girl anymore
She says I won't apologize
Stand up girls, and dry your eyes
And I'll see you on the other side of good
Where we sing
She paints her fingernails in black, she's on the run
On the wrong side of the tracks where life is fun
Points a finger, but there's nobody to blame
All the people in her memory look the same
Chorus
Everybody's favorite girl
Doesn't fake it anymore
I'm okay with who I am today
Everybody's gotta change
I'm just doing what I can
Could you love me anyway?
Chorus
Little Miss Mary Sunshine had a bad day
She says it's overrated, living this way(2x)
"Mary" by Saving Jane is a song that chronicles the transformation of Little Miss Mary Sunshine, who has had a bad day and now feels like she has had enough of trying to be the nice girl who always does the right thing. She decides to let loose and embrace her true self, which includes painting her fingernails black, leaving her sweater on the floor, and running off to the wrong side of the tracks where life is fun. Mary no longer wants to live in the constraints of society's expectations of what a good girl should be, and instead feels liberated by being able to express herself authentically.
Mary's message to her fellow girls is one of empowerment and resilience. She encourages them not to apologize for who they are and to stand up against societal norms that hold them back. The chorus of the song reflects this sentiment, as Mary celebrates her newfound self-acceptance and acknowledges that everyone goes through changes in life. Mary is ultimately asking the question, "could you love me anyway?" because she knows that despite how society may view her, she is just a girl trying to live her life on her own terms.
Overall, "Mary" is a relatable and empowering song that speaks to the importance of embracing one's true self and not conforming to societal expectations. It is a reminder that everyone goes through changes in life and that it is okay to be who you are, even if that means breaking the mold.
