Traditional Irish style scones have an egg in the mix. I think it makes them less crumbly and allows you to make larger scones if you choose. We also make brown scones with wholemeal flour

Just realised he missed the part where he put eggs in. This is my fifth time making these from this video and always wandered why my flour wasn’t binding when I added a “Splash” Of milk 😂

Came out Perfect & Tasty. Made a strawberry coulis to eat with. Instead of 8 tbs milk i used 8 tbs milk to form the dough..thanks Jamie ❣

I just made these scones 15 mins ago and forgot about the eggs
since I only watched this video and did not go to the website
to see the actual recipe.
I ended up adding extra milk (3/4 cup) since I found it a bit dry.

However, the scones turned out AMAZING!!

Already made the dough! In the oven within the next few minutes! Great recipe! I replaced the flour with oat flour to give it a little more nutrients and used coconut oil instead of butter! The dried fruits with the orange juice already taste amazing on their own I can't wait to try the scones when they're done 😍🍪

Hi sorry S P I was being sarcastic ......you know when people completely change the recipe then say how lovely it all was. I do use eggs and I never use olive oil, always butter. Basicaly the same as these made here, but I use butter-milk instead of milk. For the glaze I use a little of the left over beaten egg buttermilk and castor sugar mix. Hope that helps you more than my silly sarcasm did!

Love this. "Dearest Jamie great recipe I made it and it's a wow. I replaced the eggs with nothing, used olive oil instead of butter, almond flour instead of wheat a little touch of marmite, glut of orange juice and goodness me couldn't get enough. So yummy I cant wait to try your next recipe.

If you made them without eggs and still think that they're delicious, then I'm sorry, but you've never eaten proper scones in life mate. This recipe is wrong. Proper British scones are nowhere near as dry and hard.

Hi Jamie , I did just as you explain twice, but I failed to get them risen to your level.. I’m a bit worried that it might be the fact that the self raising flour might be not as strong as it is over there.. any advise or alternative choice of teaspoons of baking powder I can use in case I substitute it with normal wheat flour? Absolutely love your recipes, outlook on healthy food and freshness of food, and certainly the fact that you’re a super achiever in life throughout all the obstacles you face. Love scones and Jamie. Question though. Since all the scones are different sized. Won't they require different cooking times?

Lisa F He did address that issue in the video. He said as long as they were all the same thickness, they would cook in the same time. Hope this helps.

I made these scones today, but didn’t look at recipe, I followed what you did in video, and was thinking this dough is not binding together, so I thought I will just add 1 egg. Yes they did rise, yes they were lovely. But in video you don’t use eggs, but just looked at the recipe and 2 eggs should have gone in, so that’s why my dough didn’t bind together. 😊 so make sure you look at the recipe because no eggs mentioned in video. But taste Great thanks Jamie.

Hi Jamie, on your website you add 2 large eggs and milk to these, and it seems many others do that too. Is this just an oversight on this particular video, or is there a reason those ingredients are omitted?

I don't believe this is a proper recipe. It needs eggs and the measurement he said compared to what he actually used seemed different (500g flour. 15og butter)🤨

So Jamie, do you know what to omit in that recipe and what to add, to make dumplings that simmer on top of a chicken stew? I do. Basic baking powder biscuit recipe has many uses.

Why do people purchase self rising flour? I don't need various types of flour in the house. I just get all purpose white flour and all purpose whole wheat. Self rising flour has baking powder in it already and there is a lot of recipes that don't use baking powder. It is better to purchase baking powder separately.

Interesting how the recipe on the website differs in several ways from his video. On the video he bakes at 350 F, the website says 400. The video says to chill the dough for 30 minutes, the website says 15 minutes. Little things, but why isn’t it consistent?
