The Final Countdown
Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Gunhild Carling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We′re leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we′ll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?
It's the final countdown
The final countdown

We′re heading for Venus
And still we stand tall
′Cause maybe they've seen us
And welcome us all, yeah
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I′m sure that we'll all miss her so

It′s the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown
(The final countdown, ooh)

The final countdown, ooh
It's the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown
(The final countdown, ooh)

It′s the final countdown
We're leaving together
(The final countdown)
We'll all miss her so
It′s the final countdown

(The final countdown, ooh)
It′s the final countdown

The lyrics continue to express the uncertainty and fear of the unknown, with the line "Will things ever be the same again?" suggesting that the journey will change them irreparably.

The chorus of the song, "It's the final countdown," emphasizes the anticipation and tension leading up to this momentous departure. The repetition of the phrase "the final countdown" further emphasizes the sense of urgency and importance of the moment. The lines "We're heading for Venus, and still we stand tall" suggest that the group is going somewhere far away and unknown but still faces the journey with confidence and courage. They hope to be welcomed by those who may already be there, but there is no guarantee. The last line of the chorus, "It's the final countdown, ooh," repeats the importance of this event and adds a sense of grandeur and drama to the moment.

Of all the vocalists, she's the most "vintage" of them all

Old Cremona

Yeah I imagine her audition was pretty much prefunctory.

Austin Full

@Lama yea I wish they'd have Cristina back, she was my favorite. But she still performs with them on tour.

Gunhild comes from a musical family and has a BIG following in Europe. And she can play pretty much every instrument.

Oh my God, where do you find these people? This woman is absolutely out of this world! I just watched a video of her singing dancing queen, while tap dancing and playing the trumpet better than most famous musicians, and now she’s playing the trombone to, and just kicking it, absolutely unbelievable! This woman is a one woman show all by herself! I am absolutely blown away! I played the trombone for 18 years, and couldn’t even get close to what she’s doing!

I think, contrary to popular belief, there are many talented people out there. Some are just a little more than others, heh.

Golden Angele

Casually, Just pulls out the trombone and KILLS it

She has probably been practising on the trombone for quite a while. And more on the trumpet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunhild_Carling
