a lot of the credit has to go to the arrangement, & whole concept for pmj. the guy at the piano Scott Bradlee. he's the 1 who came up with the idea of taking pop songs & doing them in the old styles. so u have the old & the new. what was once pop is pop again. what could be considered outdated is current again, cuz quality & good music never goes out of style.

at least i think it was his idea. i guess it could be someone else's & he executed it well. but ya, he's pretty good at staying low key. cuz ive never seen any1 here mention him at all, much less recognize what he's done. this is great stuff. i havent been impressed by a 'style' of music like this in a very long time.

& of course von is great, cuz he expresses the music so well. from 2:33, i just start grinning uncontrollably cuz his vocal expression just makes me so happy all the way to the end. god this is so incredible how we're able to get this calibre of perf & music on youtube, & its pretty much Free. amazing. this is 1 of the things that make life worth living. music is so powerful & this song is just pure joy & happiness. in a world that can be so full of darkness & pain that tries to divide us, this is the kind of stuff that unites us & brings us hope & light :)

I find it incredible that the top comments on this video are so negative in their critiques of this performance. In my opinion, this distinguishes itself as one of PMJ's finest performances. Von Smith absolutely crushes it - I do not care at all for the original version and find myself listening to this video a few times a week.

I saw Postmodern Jukebox in Knoxville last week, and Von was with them. He did Miche Braden's vocals on Sweet Child of Mine, and brought down the house. I don't think that I've ever seen such a spontaneous standing ovation, it was like the entire audience had spring seats that activated at the end of the song. If you closed your eyes, you could barely tell the difference between him and Miche. I get that people won't believe that, I doubt that I would believe it either, but I was there, and this fresh faced kid has what it takes, and more.

You have set a standard where we actually watch the tambourine player.
We watched a tambourine player, we're used to Tim who pours his soul into a tambourine. I had no idea what a tambourine really was until i felt the love he has for that tambourine. Now it feels like something is missing.

I love this version, and I will be downloading it in a minute, but the original is the best I think. The singer here has an amazing vocal range, but I think it's just a song which lends itself best to the pop genre.
Taylor Swift really nailed this. It's one of the most catchy songs i've ever heard. I'm a 23 year old guy who listens mostly to heavy metal or 40's-70's rock, but Taylor Swift made this one of my favourite songs.

This song was quite difficult for him, he had a bit of trouble timing his breathing and this song was almost out of his range, which in turn had him off key a few times but not so seriously. Not that this performance wasn't good, it was nice, but I think I would've liked to see it done with the usual singer.

I think the problem with Von was that he wasn't peppy enough to match Taylor's original style. I definitely think Robyn or Christina would be able to keep the same upbeat vibe.

I agree completely. The song was in his break quite often and it showed. He went above his passaggio several times brilliantly, but would've shown more consistent had he changed the key to reflect his strength.
