Dark Horse
Scott Bradlee Postmodern Jukebox feat. Ashley Stroud Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Knew you were you were gonna come to me
And here you are
But you better choose carefully
'Cause I, I'm capable of anything
Of anything and everything

Make me your Aphrodite
Make me your one and only
But don't make me your enemy, your enemy
Your enemy so you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you're falling for
Baby do you dare to do this?
Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm
Cause once you're mine, once you're mine
There's no going back

Mark my words
This love will make you levitate like a bird
Like a bird without a cage but down to earth
If you choose to walk away, don't walk away

It's in the palm of your hand now baby
It's a yes or no, no maybe
So just be sure before you give it all to me
All to me, give it all to me

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you're falling for
Baby do you dare to do this?
Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm

Cause once you're mine, once you're mine
(love trippin') there's no going back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Dark Horse" by Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox feat. Ashley Stroud can be interpreted as a warning to someone who is interested in pursuing a relationship with the singer. The song conveys a sense of confidence and a willingness to take risks, as the singer asserts their capability to do anything and everything. The lyrics suggest that the person should choose carefully because the singer has the potential to be their lover or their enemy.

The chorus of the song speaks to the allure and power the singer possesses, comparing themselves to Aphrodite, the goddess of love. They ask the person if they are ready to face the consequences and challenges that come with being involved with them. The phrase "dark horse" suggests that the singer may have hidden depths or secrets that could surprise or overpower the person if they are not prepared.

The lyrics also emphasize the importance of making a clear decision, as the singer states that once the person is theirs, there is no going back. They want the person to be sure of their choice and not to walk away lightly. Ultimately, the song highlights the potential intensity and unpredictability of a relationship with the singer, urging the person to proceed with caution.

A good summary of what's wrong with America is the fact that people will shit on a girl whether she's thin or fat, instead of looking at her talent or character. No matter what your weight is people will always find a reason to insult you for it.

That said, this girl's voice is a dream.

Not just Amarica, not for now, whole world and always been. We always think that talent or character is more important than how people look but that's wrong. Beauty is, was and will be very important. This is our nature.

C Truong

Billie4Mozzarella but there’s so many things wrong with America (or the world as a whole) that have nothing to do with girls...

Spencer Jensen

She's attractive. Deal with it.

OldeFreedom no one is fun to look at, you’re talking about attraction and if in your opinion she is good to look at or not, and that’s just personal taste, that’s your business, but just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that nobody else likes it.
That being said I think that your mindset is exactly the way of thinking that the comment above was talking about, you’re sounding like her performance would be better at the radio rather than live because you don’t like her looks, which I think is extremely rude and uneducated, your behavior shows a lack of empathy for the singer and a lack of appreciation for the beautiful music that they are providing us, and I know that’s just your opinion but just because it’s your opinion doesn’t mean you get a free pass to be rude or ignorant.
If talent was all about being beautiful than we certainly would be a talentless species, because nothing is more ugly than judging and that’s what most people like to do best.

Girl has a lovely bluesy voice. Another cover that surpases the original (once again I heard the original afterwards)

I like that Scott uses such a wide range of singers.  This gal is great and she's gorgeous and I love her hair.  And yeah, she's thin (as other haters here have 'criticized'), but so what?  Clearly that's her body type. That's what makes the world interesting...all shapes, sizes, colors, etc.

It must be wonderful to be able to choose singers like a guitar player collector can choose just the right guitar for the sound he wants.

Corey Moon

While it’s fine that she looks like that, it isn’t “how a sexy young woman” should look like. She’s unusually skinny, to the point where it could have some slight effects on her health (people tend to have shorter lifespans if their BMIs slip under 18).
