Just got an ad from H&M with this song and immediately recognized it. I’ve never heard this song before, but grew up listening to a rap song called “knock knock” by Mac Miller. Hearing this song on the H&M commercial was certainly a shock to me, as I still own this record, which I bought as a kid, when it was first released in the mid 60's. Has always been one of my favorites from a wonderful, magical era. The same can be said for the Apple commercial, featuring "The Mashed Potato", a fun song and dance that we kids loved to do back then, trying to emulate the dancers who did it on American Bandstand. I remember back when I was a kid, sometime in the early 2000's, my grandma took me to a store and asked for me to pick out any toy. I could've picked out anything but I choose a stuffed poodle that sang this song. I still have it to this day, I love this song with all my heart!

This was written by Jerome Kern for a 1932 musical called Music in the Air. The music's beat is slightly increased, but the words by Oscar Hammerstein II are word for word, including the beginning, exactly what Linda Scott's version is. Pretty amazing that 30 years later, the sentiment and the sweet melody sounded like it was a 1961 original! And it DOES bring back memories of the 60s!

This song was Jerome Kern's favorite of all his songs. After he collapsed on the street and was taken to the hospital, Kern was identified by his ASCAP card. Oscar Hammerstein II with Richard Rogers went to the hospital. Hammerstein sang this song in his ear. When he got no response, Hammerstein knew Kern had died.

There were a handful of late 50s/early 60s hits that actually went back to the 20s and 30s. "Who's Sorry Now?" was actually an old jazz tune. "Blue Moon" and "I Only Have Eyes For You" were from old musicals, and there are a few more I'm not remembering.

Amazing to think that this was a dance tune in 1932. (The Jack Denny Orchestra with vocal by Paul Small.) Linda Scott's interpretation simply hit the spot as a cute teenage angst song prevalent in the late 50s and 60s. How many teenagers at the time new it was a song from an earlier generation? I didn't. It still has that lovely innocent feel sadly lacking in so much of today's offerings. DL .Staffordshire, UK.
