20th Century Boy
Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Friends say it's fine, friends say it's good
Everybody says it's just like rock 'n' roll

I move like a cat, charge like a ram, sting like a bee
Babe I'm want to be your man

Well it's plain to see you were meant for me, yeah
I'm your boy
Your twentieth century toy

Friends says it's fine, friends says it's good
Everybody says it's just like rock 'n' roll

Fly like a plane, drive like a car, hold out your hand
Babe I'm want to be your man

Well it's plain to see you were meant for me, yeah
I'm your toy
Your twentieth century boy

Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy
Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy

Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy
Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy

Friends say it's fine, friends say it's good
Everybody says it's just like rock 'n' roll

I move like a cat, charge like a ram, sting like a bee
Babe I'm gonna be your man

But it's plain to see you were meant for me, yeah
I'm your toy
Your twentieth century boy

Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy
Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy

Twentieth century toy
I want to be your boy

Twentieth century boy
I want to be your toy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts's song "20th Century Boy" speak to the idea of being someone's ideal partner, someone who moves like a cat, charges like a ram, and stings like a bee. It's a powerful image of someone who is quick and fierce, but also able to maneuver through difficult situations with skill and grace. The singer wants to be his lover's man, her toy, her 20th century boy. He wants to be someone who is powerful and able to guide her through life, even as they navigate the complexities of living in the modern world.

The idea of being a 20th century boy is an interesting one, as it speaks to the ways in which we have changed as a society. In the past, boys were expected to be strong and tough, focused on work and family. Today, boys are encouraged to be more fluid in their identities, exploring the world around them and expressing themselves in new and unique ways. This song speaks to those changes, and the way that we must navigate them if we want to understand the world around us.

Overall, "20th Century Boy" is a song that speaks to the complexities of living in the modern world, and the way that we must navigate our changing identities and relationships if we want to thrive in today's society.

pretty nice cover, love Scott's voice when he sings like himself

His baratone is on point.  My winner hands down for best male rock vocalist of all time when all factors are considered.  His counter tenor on the other hand........

@Neufertful

I listened to a lot of STP albums, listened to his first solo material and then discovered this gem, a song by T-Rex which I already liked, but sung by Scott with the same voice tone and guitars as it came from Core. What a delight. I have to admit his last album needs your ears to be trained by the love of rock and roll first, since right now guitar music with that exquisite distortion is not prevalent in popular music.

Scott nailed it with Weiland and the Wildabouts ...  Soon as he started making kick ass music again he dies...  He couldn't escape the life.  Maybe had he been able to break some financial chains and live like a hermit in the mountains for a few year to use that intellect of his to reason his way out of the lifestyle...

@Sixsoul

He's a cautionary tale: never marry.

@bryangeddes2258

RIP brother you will be missed. you're up there with the two others that were the voices of the 90s
