I'm Not Over You

I'm not over you, and I know that I never will.
I didn't know, you didn't hint, you didn't try to deceive me.
You just leave me.
You didn't call, you never phoned, you didn't say you were leaving.
You were busy.
You said it was over, she said it was over.
But I don't believe her.
But I'm not so sure.
Cause I'm not over you, and I know that I should be.
And I'm not over you, I know that I never will.
You used to say it'd never end, you used to cry I can't leave you.
I believed you.
But I'm so sure this isn't you, but I don't know how to reach you.
And I need to.
You said it was over, she said it was over.
But I don't believe her.
You said it was over, she said it was over.
But I'm not so sure.
Because I'm not over you.
Cause I'm not over you, and I know that I should be.
And I'm not over you, I know that I never will.
I'm not over you, I'm not over you, I'm not over you, I'm not over you.
You said it was over, she said it was over.
But I don't believe her.
You said it was over, she said it was over.
But I'm not so sure.
Coz I'm not over you, I'm not over.
I'm not over you, I'm not over.
I'm not over you, I'm not over.I'm not over you, I'm not over.
I'm not over you, and I know that I should be.
And I'm not over you, and I know that I never, and I know that I never, and I know that I never will
The lyrics to Scouting for Girls’ “I’m Not Over You” portray a person who is struggling to move on from a past relationship. Despite the acknowledgement that this individual should be “over” their ex-partner, they cannot seem to shake their feelings. The song begins with the repeated statement, “I’m not over you,” emphasizing the emotional hold that the ex-partner has over the singer.
The lyrics then shift to a confrontation of sorts, with the singer asserting that their ex-partner did not attempt to soften the blow of the breakup by hinting or deceiving them. Instead, the ex-partner simply left without explanation. The singer acknowledges that their ex-partner had claimed that the relationship was “over,” but they struggle to believe it, leading them to question their own feelings and emotions.
The chorus returns, and the singer doubles down on the repeated declarations of their lack of closure, demonstrating the powerful grip that their past relationship has on them. The final verses describe the singer’s desire to re-connect with their ex-partner, but from their perspective, something about the situation feels off and they struggle to figure out how to move forward. Ultimately, the song illustrates the complicated nature of relationships and the challenge of moving on after a breakup.
