Free Drug Zone
Seaweed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Treed like a fox at the end of a chase

Full shackled walk in a stumbling pace

Lease out a country based in a style

My neighbor spits as he gives us away

Do you wanna give up all your rights so that you can

Feel safe in the world that they bought for you.

Talking only through the side of her mouth

When she says everything's "ok".

I think I caught you sucking on a cigarette

In the drug free zoning your company.

Deductions coming from the back of my check

Were to serve and protect.

So baby you work for me.

You're at the age where we'll make up your mind.

Your quality help that's so hard to find.

Five dollar hours clocking you time.

Swing hammer- what can you give me?

No stopping till we get to the last.

Still coughing chunks from the mines of the past.

But now you're giving me more and more.

Giving me.

Backside safe,

But its not safe at all.

I feel safe livin for popular taste.

Backside safe,

Things fall all about you

Overall Meaning

The first verse describes a person who is running for his life from someone or something. He is exhausted, famished and completely drained. He is so trapped in this high-pressure situation that he has lost his ability to maintain balance and is walking with shackles. The second line suggests that the country where he is in operates in a very traditional manner – one that is rooted in styled customs – and it seems that the country is selling out this man by giving him away to those who are in pursuit. The chorus is a rhetorical question asking the listener whether they are willing to part with their basic rights as humans, just to feel safe as guaranteed by those who are now in control of the society.

The second verse is about a woman who appears to be speaking ambiguously, either hiding truths or having double meanings in her words. She talks about everything being okay but it's not clear whether or not she believes it to be true. It seems like she is smoking in the drug-free zone where she is working, breaking the rules of the society. The pay that the singer is receiving from his work is taxable, but it appears that this money is being used to provide safety and protection to the same people who are taking away their rights. The third verse is about a person who is young and inexperienced, being manipulated and influenced to make judgments that they may not otherwise, half-heartedly working for their employer without any benefits or privileges. The song ends with the realization of the singer that even though everything around seems considered “safe”, it is not totally secure; things are falling apart around them.
