Seether Feat. Amy Lee (of Evanescence) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lonely in this white room, there are pads everywhere
Chafing straitjacket, I won't die in there
Save me, smiling Jesus, get off that cross
Hate me, screaming masses
I don't care if I'm lost

Don't tell me that you're all better
I don't care if you are
Don't tell me that you're trendsetters
I don't care if you are

Lowly with my head bowed, there are rats everywhere
Feed me bread and water
I won't die in there
Save me, smiling Jesus, get off that cross
Hate me, screaming masses
I don't care if I'm lost

Don't tell me that you're all better
I don't care if you are
Don't tell me that you're trendsetters
I don't care if you are

Say you will, take my pills
Say you will, faking ill

Don't tell me that you're all better
I don't care if you are
Don't tell me that you're bedwetters
I don't care if you are

Say you will, take my pills
Say you will, faking ill

Say you will (say you will), take my pills (take my pills)
Say you will (say you will), faking ill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Seether Feat. Amy Lee (of Evanescence)'s song Tea depict the mental state of the singer who is lonely, and trapped in a white room with pads and a chafing straitjacket. The singer is crying out for help to both Jesus and the screaming masses, but doesn't seem to care about being lost. The lyrics also speak about the singer's state of mind, with rats surrounding them and being fed bread and water. In the second verse, the plea to save the singer is the same as the first, with the additional line about not caring if they're lost.

The chorus brings up the societal pressure and expectations to be better or trendsetters but the singer rejects them all, not caring if anyone is actually better or a trendsetter. Towards the end of the song, the singer asks someone to take their pills or to fake illness, possibly alluding to the struggle with mental illness and how people don't take it seriously or understand it.

The lyrics have been interpreted to be about being tormented, trapped, and hopeless like a person in a mental institution. The singer seems to have given up hope and is pleading for help, but at the same time, doesn't care about being lost, indicating a sense of resignation and despair. This song could prompt a discussion on mental health, and how sometimes people can feel so trapped and hopeless that they may not care about getting better or what others think of them.

I absolutely love the music and the people of Seether. I'm 61 years old and just now getting to know the music. I was too busy when they first came out raising two kids and working a full-time job. I knew a couple of their songs but that's about it. I'm so glad I found them a couple years ago. They've actually made my life a little more enjoyable. I'm still finding out things about them and different songs I haven't heard yet. What a great ride. Thank you Seether for staying together long enough for me to find you. Rock on guys!

Never too late to find great music and embrace it. I've been late to the game on a bunch of great music.
