Strangers
Seven Lions with Myon & Shane 54 ft. Tove Lo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing more than strangers
Passing by out on the street
Memories are fading though
It's only been a week
All the little things are gone
The things we used to be
Nobody could take us down
There was only you and me

And without you I can't be
You're the universe to me
You're the air in my lungs
You're the fields where I run
You're the sky where I'm floating

It's you, you, you
It's you, woah

And without you I can't be
You're the universe to me
You're the air in my lungs
You're the fields where I run
You're the sky where I'm floating, yeah

It's you, you, you
It's you, woah

Don't want to be a stranger
Want to be the one you need
I can be your world, your life
Your lover, all for free
All the little things come back
The things we used to be
Nobody can take us down there
It's only you and me

And without you I can't be
You're the universe to me
You're the air in my lungs

You're the fields where I run
You're the sky where I'm floating, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Strangers" by Seven Lions with Myon & Shane 54 feat. Tove Lo is a beautifully crafted song that tells the story of two people who were once in love but have now become strangers. The lyrics talk about how they used to share a deep connection, but now they are passing by each other on the street like strangers. Despite the short time that's passed, the memories of the little things they used to share are fading away. However, the singer can't let go of the bond they once shared because the other person was their universe. They could breathe because of the other person and they were the fields where they ran. The sky was also incomplete without them. The lyrics reflect the feeling that despite moving on, deep down, they still miss the other person and wish to be close once again.

In the second half of the song, the singer expresses their desire not to remain strangers with the other person. They don't want to lose the deep connection they once shared. They offer to be everything the other person needs to keep the relationship and their love alive. They believe the little things they shared could come back and they could still be "all for free." Despite anything that may have come between them, the singer believes it's only the two of them and no one can take them down. The song finishes with an echo of the chorus highlighting that the person being sung to was the universe to the singer, and they hope to make the other person realize it once again.
