The cover of another dirty magazine
Like a pinball under a glass bowl
They pay, they play but hey they never call.
In high school, you were too cool to be anybody's fool
And then you crashed and you burned, now relax and you'll learn
You're not the first and yet things can get worst
You give and forgive and forget and for a second
Give in and you twisted and baby you don't break.
Hey big star with your tip jar
You had it made back in your brother's bar
For so long playing the same songs
Different lover every night
But you were still alone.
In high school, you were too cool to be anybody's fool
And then you crashed and you burned, now relax and you'll learn
You're not the first and yet things can get worst
You'll lose and you'll win and then you'll lose again
You give and forgive and forget and for a second
Give in and you twisted and baby you don't break.
If you wanna make God laugh,
Tell him all the big plans that you have
Scream and shout and get all so mad
That won't change his mind.
You got your Masters but no askers
You missed the bus and now you're late again
Was college worth the knowledge?
You're waiting tables just like all your friends.
In high school, you were too cool to be anybody's fool
And then ohh, well you crashed and you burned, now relax and you'll learn
You're not the first and yet things can get worst
You'll lose and you'll win and then you'll lose again
You give and forgive and forget and for a second
Give in and you twisted and baby you don't...
You give and forgive and forget and for a second
Give in and you twisted and baby you don't...
You give and forgive and forget and for a second
Give in and you twisted and baby you don't break.
Shane Mack's "Break" is a contemplative song that tells the story of three different characters who are struggling with their dreams and aspirations in life. The first character is addressed as the "Prom Queen," someone who aspired to be a model or an actress, but is now stuck in an unfulfilling job. The second character is the "big star with your tip jar," a musician who used to perform at a popular bar but now feels isolated and alone. The final character is someone who has just graduated from college and is trying to find a job, but is frustrated with the lack of success in their job search.
The song uses a lot of metaphors and similes to explore the themes of disappointment, resilience, and hope. The "pinball under a glass bowl" represents the Prom Queen's career, and how she feels trapped and powerless. The "different lover every night" refers to the big star's fleeting success, and how it has led to a life of emptiness and isolation. Finally, the line "you give and forgive and forget and for a second, give in and you twisted and baby you don't break" is a message of hope and resilience, encouraging the listener to keep pushing forward and not give up on their dreams.
Overall, the song sends a message of hope and resilience despite the obstacles and disappointment that life can bring. It encourages the listener to keep fighting for their dreams and to never give up on themselves.

Man, Shane Mack is fantasticly chill. I really love his music, which I as well as others, found through Shelter. We need more Shane Mack.
Ron Charles
Shane Mack is such a fantastic singer and songwriter. I wish that more of his music was available. This terrific song is the one that played softly in the background when Zach and Shaun were looking at Zach's artwork in the movie "Shelter." The scene ended with their first kiss.
Tauros
Shane Mack's music was absolutely perfect for Shelter. It added great music to a great movie.
