May: the planned 7” EP on Throne Records is withdrawn and will be released by Level Plane from the USA instead. August: the split 10” with Seein’red is released. Dead Men
Shikari Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Frustration building up inside of me
The inability of getting through to you
A blind acceptance of the role they assigned to you
Have you ever wondered who told you what to do?
Dead men
Your heart didn't stop beating, you didn't stop breathing, still it seems to me as if everything just quit
Such a sad story that's meant to be so unreal but the laughter remains rather dimm playing your role as I'm watching you sliding away. what's left?, your prospects, your future?
Anger builds inside of me, I wish I could light the fire, make you realize and live again.
I wish I set the world alight, make everyone see, hear and feel, I wish I could
The lyrics to Shikari's song "Dead Men" convey a sense of frustration and anger towards individuals who have become complacent in their roles, blindly accepting the expectations that society has set for them. The singer questions why these individuals have stopped feeling and thinking for themselves, wondering who has told them what to do. The metaphor of "dead men" is used to describe these individuals who have lost their sense of purpose or desire to pursue their own passions and dreams.
The song takes on a mournful tone as the singer laments the loss of these individuals' potential and their inability to live fully. The line "Your heart didn't stop beating, you didn't stop breathing, still it seems to me as if everything just quit" encapsulates this sentiment. It is a commentary on how conformity and societal pressure can snuff out the fire within an individual and leave them feeling empty and unfulfilled.
Overall, "Dead Men" speaks to the universal struggle of maintaining a sense of individualism and staying true to one's own ambitions in the face of societal expectations and pressure to conform.
