'Til I Whisper U Something
Sinéad O'Connor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sure hate to see you looking so sad
Delicate man it needn't be that bad
You sit with me and I will listen
You'll feel much better when you open

You said all you wanted was a good time
Like a big hill you have to climb
And you got to be willing

You stand tall and you be strong
You have ruthless compassion
For yourself and for everyone
Yeah it's hard but it can be done

I know you've every right to feel grief
You've not had anything that you need
But you put your head on my shoulder
Till I whisper you something
Till I whisper you something

It don't take much to have a good time
A lot of lovemaking and a little wind
And you got to be willing

You stand tall and you stand strong
You try ruthless compassion
For yourself and for everyone
Yeah it's hard but it can be done

But you put your head on my shoulder
'Til I whisper you something
'Til I whisper you something

It's a long walk towards a good time
It's a big hill you have to climb
And you got to be willing

It don't take much to have a good time
A lot of lovemaking and a little wind
And you got to be willing

If you've never seen a good time [Repeat: x3]
How would you recognize one
How would you recognize one, how would you
How would you even find one
How would you, if you've never seen a good time
If you've never seen a good time

If you've never seen a good time
How would you recognize one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sinéad O'Connor's song "Til I Whisper U Something" are about offering comfort and support to someone who is feeling sad and down. The delicate man mentioned in the first verse is likely someone who is feeling overwhelmed and perhaps struggling with mental health issues. O'Connor offers a listening ear and encourages him to be kind to himself and others through the concept of "ruthless compassion."

The mention of a good time could mean different things to different people, but it seems to suggest that finding happiness and contentment in life doesn't have to be a big, daunting task. It can be as simple as enjoying lovemaking and the little moments of joy that come with it. O'Connor acknowledges that it can be hard work, but it is something that is worth striving for.

The repetition of the phrase "if you've never seen a good time" suggests that this delicate man may have never experienced true happiness or moments of pure joy. O'Connor encourages him to be open and willing to find those moments, and to be patient with himself as he navigates the journey towards them.

Overall, the song is a message of hope and encouragement to those who may be struggling with their mental health or feeling lost in life. O'Connor offers a reminder that it is possible to find happiness and that it is worth the effort to pursue it.

One of my all time fave Sinead tracks. Really amazing track!

Daniel Ely

This woman is a musical genius

Memo

This was the strongest track in Faith & Courage after 'No Man's Woman'. Why she didn't release this as a single or even performed it live is puzzling. This could have easily become a classic sinead track like 'The Last Day of our Acquaintance' or 'You've Made Me The Thief of your Heart'

agreed. for me this song is like psalm 18
