For What It's Worth
Sincerely Me Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I haven′t been myself at all these days
California just isn't the same
And it′s been too long
Since you went along

Do you remember waking up with me
You always looked the best in the mornings
We'd sleep in till noon
(Sleep in till noon)
Waste a day with you

The feelings I still have I can't express
The words I try to say turn to silence
If only I could get this off my chest

Cause you′re the one that got away
In the pouring rain
If you′re the sunlight, I'm the shade
And it′s getting late

Driving down the 30 past midnight
You said that you're stil working so stop by
You made me a drink
You made me think
That every night we shared back then felt right

Desperate to share one last high tide
Before I make this 20 hour drive

You′re the one that got away
In the pouring rain
If you're the sunlight, I′m the shade
And it's getting late

For what it's worth
I′m sorry

I got to learn but I′m trying
And for what it's worth
I′m sorry

You're the one that got away
In the pouring rain
If you′re sunlight, I'm the shade
And it′s getting late

You're the one that got away
In the pouring rain

If you're the sunlight, I′m the shade
And it′s getting late

Overall Meaning

The song "For What It's Worth" by Sincerely, Me talks about how the singer is feeling lost and disoriented, and how they can't seem to express themselves properly to the person they care about the most. The song initially starts off with the singer saying that they haven't been themselves lately and that California just isn't the same. They express how they miss the person they are singing to and how it's been too long since they've seen them last. The first verse also talks about how the singer remembers waking up with the other person, and how they always looked their best in the mornings. They reminisce about how they used to waste their days away sleeping in till noon and how they wish they could go back to that time.

The chorus of the song is where the lyrics become more emotional and the singer starts expressing their true feelings. They say that the other person is the one that got away, and that they feel like they are the shade to the other person's sunlight. They talk about how they drove down past midnight to see the other person and how it made them think about all the nights they spent together. The chorus ends with the singer saying that they are sorry for everything that has happened between them and that they are trying their best to learn and improve.

The bridge then simply repeats "You're the one that got away in the pouring rain, if you're the sunlight, I'm the shade and it's getting late" followed by the repetition of the chorus. The song ends by repeating the chorus twice, emphasizing on the fact that the person was the one who got away and how the realization is hitting the singer hard.

To The One Who Got Away,

It's been three long years since you walked out of my life. And still, I've been attempting to move forward, day by day, waiting in vain as if you were just temporarily absent, and our connection had been lost, not forever.

In that first year, the pain was almost unbearable. The second year saw me trying to quiet the love I felt for you, attempting to loosen its grip. And now, in this third year, I've begun to lose hope.

No matter how hard I've tried to bury my feelings for you or suppress the happiness you brought into my life, they've remained constant. They return, as if they never left in the first place. I still smile when I think of you.

Your memory has a way of calming even the stormiest of my days, just as it always did.
Answers to my questions have eluded me, even to this day.

But I'm content to hold onto these feelings until the day they naturally fade from memory.

Though we may never meet again in this lifetime, I have a deep hope that in some other corner of the universe or in the next life, we'll have a chance to reunite. And, perhaps, things will fall into place for us then.

As I pen down these words, there are no tears, just a flood of love, reminiscing about how you made me feel. I find happiness in these memories.

I wish you the very best, wherever life has taken you. I loved you, and I've missed you.

Farewell Pau.
