SIR REG is a band that took a long time in the making. For almost a decade, under the name The Barcrawlers, the core of the band gigged its ass off all over Scandinavia playing Irish pub songs at every venue imaginable. It all starting in 2001 when Brendan, Karin and Karin's brother (who's no longer with the band) began rehearsing covers and Irish traditionals for a show at a local bar. Brendan had just recently moved to Sweden from Ireland and was in dire need to continue doing what he loved doing before he moved β singing and playing.
They hit the road with the best songs from their sources of inspiration, for example The Pogues, Horslips, Flogging Molly, Blur, David Bowie, Oasis, The Beatles, The Dubliners and Dropkick Murphy's to name just a few. A couple of members came and went during the following years, mainly due to heavy touring and its consequences . After many winding roads and several hundred shows under their belt, they felt content β they had achieved all that they had set out to do as a "pub band". They decided it was about time for the next chapter and start making music that they themselves wanted to make. SIR REG (pronounced "Sir. Redge") was born.
Therefore, armed with a bunch of original compositions they hit the studio and created something they would be proud of - music they would listen to themselves. With each member's individual influences thrown into a melting pot, the resulting sound was better than they had hoped for. In late 2009 they released βThis is SIR REGβ, an eight-track EP. Good melodies, strong choruses, personal lyrics, violins, banjos, flutes, accordions, mellotrons and distorted guitars all got thrown into the upbeat tempo blender.
Even though a few in the band have been playing together for quite a while, SIR REG as a band is only in its infancy at the moment. Together they have the goals set, a strong desire to develop and progress further as time goes on. The supporting foundation of SIR REG is firm. The blueprint is on the table and the building material is on the front lawn.

Just to feel what it's like to be free
Walked a desert and sailed in a vessel of broken dreams
It's the bravery inside that you see
It's the hope that we have to believe
Don't let go, there'll be a better day
Where everyone and everything is fine
We're living in a crazy messed up world
Don't let go
Yeah I'm sane in my mind but you're thinking I'm odd
Just to please your insecurity
Found a dead end and climbed over all of the walls, we were robbed
It's the sadness inside that you feel
It's the hope that we have to believe
Thereβs a time and a place for the lies that youβre telling me
We will never give up we can rise to the top you will see
Don't let go, there'll be a better day
Where everyone and nobody is fine
Still living in a crazy messed up world
Don't let go
The lyrics of Sir Reg's song "Don't Let Go" convey the theme of perseverance and hope in the face of adversity. The first verse depicts a sense of longing and waiting for freedom, symbolized by waiting for a century. This could be interpreted metaphorically to represent the struggle for freedom or liberation from societal constraints. The line "Walked a desert and sailed in a vessel of broken dreams" suggests that they have faced numerous obstacles and challenges in their pursuit of freedom, but it is their bravery and belief in hope that drives them forward.
The chorus serves as a motivational call to hold on and not give up. It emphasizes the belief in a brighter future ("a better day") where everything will be fine. Despite the chaos and confusion in the world, the message is to stay resilient and find alternative paths towards a better tomorrow. It reflects the resilience and determination necessary to navigate through the challenges of life and maintain hope.
In the second verse, the lyrics touch upon the contrast between the singer's sanity and the perception of others. The line "Yeah I'm sane in my mind but you're thinking I'm odd" implies that the singer's perspective and approach to life may seem unconventional or misunderstood by others. This highlights the tension between conforming to societal expectations and staying true to oneself. The line "Found a dead end and climbed over all of the walls, we were robbed" further emphasizes the struggles faced, indicating that they have encountered setbacks and disappointments along the way.
The bridge section reinforces the message of resilience and determination. It suggests that despite the lies and deceptions they may encounter, they will never give up and can rise above it all. This encourages listeners to stay strong and keep pushing forward despite the obstacles they face.
Overall, "Don't Let Go" encourages perseverance, hope, and the refusal to surrender in the face of a challenging and chaotic world. It serves as a reminder that even in the midst of adversity, there is always the potential for a brighter future if one holds onto hope and continues to believe in a better tomorrow.
