She’s released over 14 studio albums, her Christmas album from 1986 is the best selling album in Norway ever with almost one mill copies sold! She’s featured on several soundtracks and sold well over nine million albums world wide and her popularity continues to grow!
She truly is a northern star!
Here are the lyrics to her song "Ready to go home":
On this street below these walls
Where I used to walk now I can barely crawl
All this darkness rise and tall
Lord shine a light for me I’m ready to be caught
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
Take this river to the sea
Where the delta flows
The tide is washing over me
Guide this soul to heavens door
Show me where tomorrow lays
I’m waiting to be born
I’m ready to lay down
I’m ready now to sleep a promise I must keep
I’m ready to go home
So time I’ll lay down with these memories
Breathe the shallow deep inside of me
If time has run its course with me
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
When the evening shadows fall
When the time has come
I let defences fall
To surrenders to survive
I will give up everything to those I leave behind
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
I’m ready to lay down
I’m ready now to sleep a promise I must keep
I’m ready to go home, again
Going home again

To explain this situation we're in?
Angels heard the beautiful words that you prayed
And showed me the way to you
And they knew you were in love
So they sent me down from heaven above
Angels cried and kissed me goodbye, I was long gone
Oh, my song could never be
As sweet as the song you sing to me
Oh, my love could never be
As deep as the love you give to me
When your fingers touch my skin
And you kiss my lips and tickle my chin
I breathe you in, oh Mama, I'm where I belong
This is my song to you
Oh, my song could never be
As sweet as the song you sing to me
Oh, my love could never be
As deep as the love you give to me
Oh, one day I will be grown
And I know, I'll have a child on my own
Remember me this way, 'cause some day
I'll be long gone, singing my song to you
Oh, my song could never be
As sweet as the song you sing to me
Oh, my love could never be
As deep as the love you give to me
The lyrics to Sissel's song "Sarah's Song" tell the story of a child who expresses gratitude and love for her mother. The child acknowledges the beautiful words her mother prays, and how the angels heard those words and led the child to her mother. The love between them is so strong that the child feels as though she belongs with her mother. She knows that her mother's love is deep and meaningful, and she recognizes that her own love could never be as deep as her mother's. The child hopes that her mother remembers her in the future, even when she is gone, and thinks of the beautiful song that they have shared.
The song speaks to the universal experience of a mother's love and the deep connection between parent and child. It reminds us of the unbreakable bond that exists between mothers and their children, no matter what happens. Even as the child grows up and eventually leaves home, the connection between mother and daughter will always remain.
"Sarah's Song" is a powerful tribute to mothers and a reminder of the love and devotion that they give to their children. The lyrics are simple and heartfelt, allowing listeners to connect with the emotions that are being expressed. Sissel's beautiful vocals add depth and emotion to the words, creating a powerful and touching song.

This song gets me everytime cuz I can't listen to it at least once without crying during part of it. I first heard it off one of Sissels albums from like 20 some years ago and although it's Unique that it's written from the perspective of a daughter towards her mother I used it as the song for the mother-son Dance at My Wedding. I love how she sings it live just like an album as a singer songwriter and composer myself I try to do the same thing because people want to hear live what they hear your CD as well as some new stuff too. I might do a cover this myself.
