Their debut album, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere, was released in 1995. For the supporting tour, Slash enlisted James LoMenzo and Brian Tichy, of Pride & Glory, in place of Inez and Sorum, who had other commitments. They played shows in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia before Geffen Records pulled their financial support for the tour, with Slash returning to Guns N' Roses and Slash's Snakepit disbanding.
Following his departure from Guns N' Roses in 1996, Slash formed the cover band Slash's Blues Ball. After a tour in 1997, Slash approached Blues Ball bassist Johnny Griparic about forming a new lineup of Slash's Snakepit. The new lineup consisted of Slash, Griparic, singer Rod Jackson, guitarist Ryan Roxie, and drummer Matt Laug (Roxie and Laug were both former members of Alice Cooper's solo band). They recorded and released their second album, entitled Ain't Life Grand, in 2000, which was preceded by a tour supporting AC/DC and followed by their own headlining tour. For the tour, Keri Kelli joined the group in place of Ryan Roxie, who departed following the completion of the album. However, after the final show, Slash disbanded Snakepit due to a lack of commitment from his band members. Shortly after, Slash formed Velvet Revolver in 2002, along with drummer and fellow Guns N' Roses member Matt Sorum.

Down the halls we waltz, your end is in my dreams
I wanna be like him, he had a dreadful life
I wanna learn to shoot, I want to use a knife
I like the smell of fear that makes you paralyzed
I am the boy next door who put that fear in your eyes
I'll be your slave and then dig your grave
While we're makin' love, I dream revolver
They say I'm crazy, falling apart
Do you like the way I murdered your heart
I'm smart and cagey, I come in the night
If you let me in, you'll give up your life
He like to roll in the mud, up to his chin
Now I open my head and let his voodoo in
I rode those sissy bars all the way to hell
Sweet mother justice, We've heard it all
There's nothing left to tell
I hope you didn't need all this for yourself
And the man with the star says he knows you are
But I just keep singin' la dee dee dah
They say I'm crazy, falling apart
Do you like the way I murdered your heart
I'm smart and cagey, I come in the night
If you let me in, you'll give up your life
Boom, boom, bang, bang screams in the dark
If you let him in, he'll murder your heart
Boom, boom, bang, bang screams in the dark
If you let him in, he'll murder your heart
He's not the man you see at home
He's someone else inside
His life's no longer his own
He's someone else inside
Creepin' up when you're alone
And now he stands inside
He wants to take you to hell
But for him it's heaven
Sorry to say but you're not the only one
You're not the lonely one that turned my light on
While I turned yours off, off, off...
The lyrics to Slash's Snakepit's "Serial Killer" are both haunting and disturbing. The song tells the story of a deranged person who has the desire to become a serial killer. The lyrics suggest that the person is intimately familiar with their potential victim, who they describe as "you," and they seem to be walking down the halls with them. The mood is ominous and the perspective is from the point of view of the killer.
The lyrics go on to describe the killer's fascination with the lifestyle of a famous serial killer, and their desire to learn how to use a knife and shoot a gun. Their ultimate desire is to instill fear in their victim and they relish the thought of seeing the terror in their eyes. The killer's perspective is that they are just the "boy next door," but they have an insatiable desire to kill.
The chorus of the song is chilling as it suggests that the killer is already inside of the victim's life, waiting for the right moment to strike. The imagery of "boom, boom, bang, bang screams in the dark" is particularly upsetting as it suggests violence and chaos. The song ends with a sense of foreboding, as the killer reveals that "you're not the only one" that has turned their light on.
Overall, the song does an effective job of painting the picture of a deadly killer, and the lyrics are intense and disturbing.
