The lyrics to Slipknot's self-titled song are often interpreted as a battle call by a werewolf against corporations and organizations that harm his tribe's existence. The lyrics are filled with references to werewolf culture, terminologies and slangs, which may be confusing to those unfamiliar with it. In the first verse, the werewolf sings about his hatred for Pentex, a fictional global conglomerate that exploits natural resources, as well as Bonegnawers, a tribe that is known for its scavenging lifestyle. The werewolf believes that both organizations are responsible for draining the life force of his tribe, and hence his call for their demise.

In the second verse, the werewolf expresses his hatred for the Black Hand, which is another fictional organization that is controlled by the werewolf's enemies. The werewolf accuses the Black Hand of being wyrm-tainted, which means they have been contaminated by evil spirits that seek to destroy the werewolf's kind. The werewolf then declares that he would rip and tear them apart if he had the chance. The rest of the song describes the werewolf's transformation into Crinos, which is a powerful werewolf form, and his battles in the Umbra, which is a supernatural realm.
