NO MERCY
Sons of an Illustrious Father Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I walk through the valley of death
Will I see you there?
Or just my own realises
Like the secret ghost,
The last cigarette that you ever smoke
Will you walk on water or will you take the boat?
Do you have the fair in your color ago
Will i see you there across the blue sea
And if you were to know
Will it just be me

How do I sing to you
When you′re not you

So sorry i say none of it can be ...
Well then you can feel how it feels to be missed
I tore up the sleeve with the ... that i want
Stitch up the scene so i feel adored

How do i sing to you
When you're not you
I′m lying to myself
What would you do
I'm lying to myself
What would you do
I'm lying to myself
What would you do
What would you do

You let it all be truth
Then it might take me too

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "No Mercy" by Sons of an Illustrious Father are open to interpretation, but a possible interpretation is that the song explores themes of loss, longing, and self-deception. The singer is contemplating what awaits them in the afterlife, wondering if they will encounter someone they've lost or if they will only confront their own regrets and realizations. The reference to walking on water or taking a boat suggests the choice between transcending earthly existence or accepting mortality. The line "Do you have the fair in your color ago" could be interpreted as questioning whether the person being addressed possesses the ability to forgive or offer mercy.

The second verse delves into the singer's struggle with self-deception. They apologize for not being able to understand or accept the truth. This could imply a longing to be reunited with someone and refusing to acknowledge that they are gone or have changed. The line "I tore up the sleeve with the ... that I want" suggests a desire to reshape or alter reality to suit their desires. The singer then seeks validation through stitching up a scene, possibly in an attempt to feel loved or idolized.

The chorus repeats the question of how the singer can communicate or sing to someone who is no longer themselves. It hints at a sense of internal conflict, as the singer acknowledges the deception they are creating for themselves. The repetition of "I'm lying to myself, what would you do" suggests the struggle between facing reality and continuing to deceive oneself.

Overall, the lyrics of "No Mercy" explore themes of loss, longing, and the internal battles we face when dealing with grief and self-deception.

Really I came here because of Ezra, but after watching a few of their videos, I think if there is a good singer in the group it is her. After watching this several times, I think she is so talented she should be a big star. And Josh is so good on the organ. He really sets the atmosphere for this song. Ezra on the drums, really they are all really good on this song. I think this is my favorite, so far.
