1. Sophy Won… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least two artists that are known as Sophy:
1. Sophy Wong (simplified Chinese: 王嘉仪; traditional Chinese: 王嘉儀; pinyin: Wáng Jiā Yí; born 16 February 1992), also known as SOPHY, is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter.
2. Sophy was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and started her artistic career on “La Nueva Ola” television program produced by Tommy Muñiz.
By the end of the 1960’s Sophy moved to New York City where she worked with the legendary Tito Puente as a singer in his orchestra, broadcasting weekly on the radio “Tito Puente y su mundo latino” from Newark, New Jersey.
Puente released an album “Tito Puente presenta con orgullo.. Sophy”, featuring the talented Sophy and her hit song “La última palabra”. The song gave Sophy recognition in New York as well as Puerto Rico during the summer of 1970.
In 1971 she released her second album: Te Reto under the Tico label. In 1972 her career took off after signing with the Velvet record label, releasing widely broadcast hit songs such as “Te apuesto”, “Los Reyes Magos” and “Será, será”.
But it was in 1973 that her album Yo soy mujer… y no soy una santa” helped establish her as the most popular female singer in Puerto Rico. The album was acclaimed in Puerto Rico with hit songs including “Locuras tengo de ti”, “Estoy sola”, “Muchacho malo”, “Perdón”, “Cuéntale a ella” and “Canción para una esposa triste” dominating the airwaves in Puerto Rico.
A succesion of hit records followed as well as night club appearances and concerts. Her popularity also spread well beyong Puerto Rico to Latin America and the United States. During one concert in the Dominican Republic, Sophy attracted more than 30,000 fans, to the Olympic Stadium under a torrential rainstorm. She sang 22 songs while the fans stayed on their feet.
In the 1980’s, Sophy scored new hit songs such as “Vicio”, “Un amante así”, “Qué sabe nadie”, “Todo comenzó” and “Beso a beso”. She also moved beyond pop music to try her hand at salsa, with an album entitled Sophy in New York, produced by Wille Colón.
Perhaps her greatest achievement though was the album The Rhythm of the Night that included American themes, sung in Spanish with merengue rhythms. The album showcased her extensive talents and opened the door to more opportunities.
Sony Records signed Sophy in 1987 who then went on to release five albums, including Sophy en portugués, various remixes and duets with noted Dominican singer Johnny Ventura. But she left Sony at the start of the 1990’s and experimented with independent record companies. Her album Esta soy yo, released in 1992 received only a lukewarm reception by radio stations.
The growing popularity of female merengue singers, led by Olga Tañón, prompted Sophy to release her Un lado aparte album in 1995 on the Combo Records label. She followed with her album Tributo a grandes voces and a re-release of her album in Portugese and other productions such as a greatest hits record from her years with the Velvet label.
The latended artist has also collaborated with many others, helping produce recordings that included other artists and music of many genres. One example is this recording of Sophy singing a classic Puerto Rican melody composed by Rafael Hernandez, Lamento Borincano (lyrics).

dime, si mi amor no te alcanza,
(Bis)
Locuras tengo por tu boca,
que se torna roja,
cuando la beso yo.
Locuras tengo por tus ojos,
tus ojos de color café,

The lyrics of Sophy's song "Locuras Tengo de Ti" delve into the intense emotions of love, separation, and longing. In the opening lines, the singer expresses her sadness at the prospect of being separated from her lover and acknowledges the inevitable passage of time that can threaten their relationship. She then describes her sleepless nights without him, highlighting the emptiness and silence of her surroundings.
Despite her doubts about his feelings towards her, the singer asserts her own love for him and even offers her life to him if he needs it. The chorus repeats the phrase "Locuras tengo por ti" (I have craziness for you) in reference to the intense and perhaps irrational impulses she feels towards him. She is captivated by his name, voice, and especially his mouth, which turns red when she kisses him.
The second verse goes on to describe her love for his coffee-colored eyes and his face in her hands. The singer recognizes that they may have to live apart or even part ways, but her love for him remains so strong that it drives her to the point of madness when he is not with her. The repetition of the chorus at the end emphasizes the intensity of her feelings and the almost irrational nature of her love.

@Daimondjerry
