Soulwax Lyrics

And it is good for your mind
Well you can twist and shout
Let it all hang out
But you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No no no
You can tell we're playing
In the falling rain
I drive a Rolls Royce
'cause it's good for my voice
But you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
(from the album : Glittering 2000)
The lyrics to Soulwax's song "Children of the Revolution" are rebellious and powerful, reflecting on the youth of the time and their resistance against the establishment. The first stanza acknowledges the physical release of dancing, but also hints at the idea that it is not just be about letting loose, but rather a form of liberation that is not attainable by conforming to societal rules. The second stanza takes aim at the materialism of the older generation, which are particularly represented by the car one drives. It's a symbol of money and status, and the suggestion is that it's pointless when trying to earn respect from the new generation. The chorus suggests that the younger generation understands that there is a lot of manipulation happening around them, but they will not be easily fooled. They see through the superficiality of things and want to be part of a bigger movement towards real change.
Overall, "Children of the Revolution" is a message from Soulwax to the youth of the time that they must stand up for themselves and not be blindly led by the older generation. The song recognizes the rebellious nature of the younger generation but also encourages them to be aware of the deeper political and societal issues behind their resistance.
