Spock's Beard play a brand of progressive rock with pop music leanings, drawing much influence from Genesis and the Beatles. They are also well known for their intricate multi-part vocal harmonies and use of counterpoint much in the vein of Gentle Giant. They've released records like the acclaimed The Kindness of Strangers and V before releasing the epic concept album Snow, which also marked the departure of leader and main composer Neal Morse for a solo career as a Christian artist.
After the departure of Neal Morse, the frontman role was taken on by Nick D'Virgilio. The 'new' lineup has released four more studio albums: Feel Euphoria, Octane, Spock's Beard and X.
On tour, the band is supported by drummer Jimmy Keegan, leading to occasional drum duets/duels between him and Nick D'Virgilio (which can be compared to Phil Collins and Chester Thompson at Genesis concerts; drummer Collins also took the lead singer role, after original frontman Peter Gabriel left the band).
On November 21, 2011 news was announced that Nick D'Virgilio would discontinue working with the band (due to his work commitments with "Cirque du soleil"), with Ted Leonard (former Enchant and Thought Chamber) replacing him on vocals and former tour drummer Jimmy Keegan replacing him on drums permanently.
The band was named for the Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror," where the crew enters a parallel universe in which the parallel Mr. Spock is differentiated by his beard.
Carry On

And left to begin it
I opened my mind
But I fell deep down in it
Lost at the crossroads of two worlds
Watching the future unwind
I was blind to a truth I
Always knew
CARRY ON
When your whole world comes apart
There's a place for you to start
So I kept searching for
Someone to find me
I tried to define
What was always denied me
Traveling mazes of mirrors
Searching for one perfect sign
I was a miner for fools gold
Though I knew
You have to
CARRY ON
When your whole world comes apart
There's a place for you to start
When the current drags you down
There's a way up to be found
CARRY ON
Through the days and through the nights
CARRY ON
Though you might
Feel your burden drag you down
There's a way up to be found
When your whole world comes apart
There's a place for you to start
When the current drags you down
There's a way up to be found
I dreamed a journey
And left to begin it
I opened my mind
But I fell deep down in it
The lyrics to "Carry On" by Spock's Beard tell the story of someone who is searching for meaning and truth in their life. The verses describe a journey of self-discovery, with the singer feeling lost at the crossroads of two worlds and traveling through mazes of mirrors, searching for one perfect sign. Despite feeling like a miner for fool's gold, the singer knows there is a truth they have always known, but were blind to.
The chorus provides a sense of hope and encouragement, to carry on when the whole world feels like it's falling apart. The lyrics acknowledge the struggles of feeling burdened and dragged down by life's obstacles, but emphasize that there's always a place to start and a way up to be found. The repetition of "carry on" reinforces the idea of perseverance and resilience, even when things seem impossible.
